Removal of an eligible playground arena

Hello,

I don’t understand, the arena has disappeared and it has become a pokéstop.

However, there are more than 20 waypoints in cell S14 and there are only 2 arenas.

Can you explain to me ?

Thanks

  • Wayspot Title: Aire de jeux du Square du Pré Perché
  • Location (lat/lon): 48,1065370, -1,6813410
  • City: Rennes
  • Country: France

Hi
Are there any sponsored gyms in that level 14 cell? They are part of the gym count.

Was the location of Aire de jeu changed? This can result in a recalculation and hence downgrading.
It is also possible that the property owner requested the removal of the gym status to prevent larger gatherings.

Yes it was considerably moved following a request from the community.

However, an arena would have to process on another POI

There are 3 Gyms in this Level 14 S2 Cell already: “Chapelle De La Saint Famille”, “Mémoroal Des Martyrs De La Résistance Et De La Déportation”, and “McDonald’s Rennes Colombia”.

Sponsored Gyms do count towards the cell limit, but don’t automatically downgrade another Gym if it causes the cell to have more Gyms than it should. The fact “Aire de jeux du Square du Pré Perché” was edited caused the game to realise that the cell had 4 Gyms, and so it downgraded that Gym as it was the one being edited.

Once the McDonald’s sponsorship ends, you should see another Gym pop up in this cell, and it’s quite possible that it will be “Aire de jeux du Square du Pré Perché” that gets promoted back to being a Gym.

This is false, a sponsored arena does not count, before the POI was moved

That used to be the reliable case in the past but the new sponsored gyms can actually take the gym count sometimes nowadays

It’s a regression, what’s more, the McDonald’s arena isn’t recent, we’re losing an elite arena in the city center

Hi, I moved this out of Wayspot Appeals , as the gym status of a wayspot in Pokémon GO is not something that the Wayfarer team deals with or that can be appealed on this forum. Also, what @hankwolfman proposed seems to be the recently observed behavior for some sponsored gyms.

I want a clear answer from a mod

You are talking to one right now, but I’m guessing you mean Niantic team members. The Niantic team members on here are not from the Pokémon GO team. You would have to reach out to Pokémon GO support regarding the gym status of a wayspot.

Also, please stay respectful and polite in your communication on this forum. I also want many things.

I wrote this explanation a few days ago to a similar situation

Hope this helps

What I’ve told you is the truth. That’s how it has worked for some time now.

There were four, so why did it go to three, and I wasn’t rude, i have the right to understand

As stated, if a sponsored Gym is added to a cell that already has 3 Gyms, it will become a fourth Gym, but if one of the other Gyms is then edited (like what happened here), that causes the game to realise that the cell has 4 Gyms, and if it detects this, it will downgrade the Gym that is edited to conform to the 3 Gym per cell rule.

It’s ridiculous

we are encouraged to make changes to the POIs during the Wayfarer challenge and that has an impact on the playing field, it seriously demotivates me

I can understand your frustration. We had a very similar situation locally which meant we lost a gym.
It is annoying. It is not an arrangement I like, but there is nothing that can be done.
Is there any scope in an neighbouring cell for another gym?

I have noticed since the last wayfarer challenge even moving a gym within the same L17 cell can cause a demotion to a stop. Had it happen at one of my local parks because one of the stops in the L14 cell was removed putting it at 5 poi instead of 6 that appeared in pogo. I got another stop added and the gym came back in the location that was downverted.

Nope
