Additional Information (if any):
I would like to request a review of this Gym because the object does not appear to exist at the location shown in the game.
Based on the Gym photo, it should be a sign mounted on a rock at a bend of the hiking trail. However, there is no sign or similar object at the coordinates in Pokémon GO. I have attached photos of the area with geolocation timestamps showing the current situation.
It is possible that the sign has been moved or removed since the Wayspot was originally submitted. If I find the sign elsewhere nearby in the future, I would be happy to submit it again with the correct location.
The original photo I submitted on which I marked the location of the gym:
Thank you for reviewing this request.
Thanks for the appeal, @Lapidus101477! Due to insufficient evidence, we’re unable to remove the Wayspot in question. If you have additional evidence to share, like geotagged images or 360° video, please submit a new appeal with additional information, and we’ll take another look.
…Are the five geotagged photos not enough?
We have seen before that just printing the information on the photo is not enough. The photos need to have the location information in the data.
@NianticLC
I had never taken geotagged photos before, so I searched on Google for how to do it. It recommended this app, which I then used to take the pictures.
I have already gone to this location twice just to report the issue. When I did, I was standing at the exact spot and even used the Pokémon Go app to submit the report. I walked back and forth along the road to make sure you have a better view of the surroundings.
I also enabled geolocation metadata in my camera app, so the location data should be included in the photos. However, I don’t know how to check this myself.
Could you please specify which app I should use to take the 360° photos and explain exactly how you would like them to be captured?
Sorry if I sound persistent, but this issue really bothers me and I don’t want to just let it go. I’m just wondering how many more times I’ll be asked to go back and collect additional “evidence.”
This is a completely fair question, and I hope you get an answer. I am not techy enough to understand when someone starts talking about exif data and such. It could be the issue I used to have on the old forum where posting on the forum stripped the location information out of the photos - I haven’t tried on this current forum. I would love to have a procedure I can point people to for future reference and am following this post.
If you do not get an answer about how post them, I would recommend using the “Wayspot Removals” form linked at the top of the forum and do a new report that way, and be sure to do the report on your phone so that your photos do not lose the geotag in the process of getting them to the report. But I would give staff through the weekend to respond again here first.
I can confirm that the software you used does put the GPS data in to the Exif.
I can also confirm that saving your image from the forum there is no GPS Exif data.
If not being in the exif data is the problem then either…
- The settings on your phone need changing.
- Something you did to them before posting removed the data.
- The forum software removes it.
Sure if this was the reason then opening a DM and asking for them to be sent in a different way would be preferable than just stating “Due to insufficient evidence”…
Yes, and I’m not sure how much technical background can be expected from an average user. The app probably runs with different settings than the default camera app.
The reason I’m a bit frustrated is that I use Pokémon Go to motivate my son to go outside. While we walk, we can also talk. Since he’s still young, PokéStops feel like a treasure hunt to him. The problem is when I convince him to go on a hike with some elevation and then the PokéStop/Gym isn’t actually there. That really kills his motivation — in this case we even turned back because of it.
On the way back we scanned a few other PokéStops together, so the mood improved a bit. But now he probably won’t want to come back to that trail, even though I’m pretty sure we could create new PokéStops along the way.
Anyway, I’ll try to fix the situation. I’ll go back and take more photos or maybe a video, but it would really help to know what exactly is acceptable. I already realized that generative AI can check the image metadata, so I’ll verify that on site. But I’m still not sure how to properly upload something like a video or how to take a 360° photo so that it will be accepted as valid data.
The Gym is definitely not there. I’d also be curious to see what evidence was used to consider that submission valid. It might have been moved at some point, but in that case the metadata of the original submission could also be checked, right?
It should be attached to this rock
Maybe the location is slightly off?
It says that it is on a 10 m high rock. I looked at the link, my pictures, and the map you shared. I have the feeling that the large white area is the rock, and based on the curves of the road and the direction sign in the background, the plate could be on the side of the rock that is not visible from the direction I came from. As I mentioned before, we turned back, but I did look in that direction.
Based on the picture from the link, the plate has seen better days — it looked rusty and dirty, and everything around it was mossy. Maybe the vegetation was covering it, and that’s why I didn’t notice it. Also, the location might be quite inaccurate.
Now that I have an idea where to look, I might be able to find it, although the yellow and white signs on the trees don’t match. Thanks for the clues!

Maybe it will be a fun activity to try and locate the correct location for the wayspot, you can even make an in-app suggestion with your son. Might motivate him

Yupp! The plate is about 15 meters (if the rock is 10m high) away from the location where it was marked. The aluminum plate was covered in dirt and looked dull, blending in with the grey-colored stone, and it also had some moss on it. Based on our discussion, I brought alcohol and a cloth with me. I cleaned it, and then took new photos.
I reported the gym again because it is not at the correct location. I also scanned the gym by running from the false location to the correct one. In addition, I took panoramic photos that include the geotag (I can see the tag on my phone via the properties).

If the newly submitted report is rejected, I will open a new forum post and link this discussion there.

Awesome result! New pic looks lovely. I think help chat is down right now but once it’s available again you can also ask them to move the location
I am confused. If you submitted a removal report with geotagged photos of where the plaque actually is, they may reject the removal report again, but correct the location anyway.
It is so much easier to prove something is somewhere else with geo-tagged photos, rather than just not there.
I don’t believe that scanning a pokestop or gym contributes anything to a removal/move request. Someone correct me if that is wrong.
Under Report PokéStop Issue, the following options are available: Not suitable for AR experiences / Unsafe access / Sensitive location / Location does not exist / Abusive content / Private Residential Property / School (K-12) / Duplicate PokéStop.
However, there is no option to report that the PokéStop is in the wrong location.
I love where this discussion journey has ended up with a nice new photo and a restored plaque for everyone.
Although the help pages are down I believe the help chat is available.
But maybe the Wayfarer Team can pick this up and untangle it all.

Got you now! There are so many ways and types of reports we can do that I wasn’t sure which you had used.
