Recently we got new pokestop accepted (52.435100, -1.825923) which seems to make long established power spot to disappear. I looked up and I understand it was caused by new pokestop being closer to it than 22m, which is understandable. The power spot was named Summertown Chinese Takeaway and it was old rejected pokestop nomination.
It would be great to have powerspot in this area especially as the other pokestop just became a gym (52.435502, -1.825568) so this is my question:
if I’d make a pokestop submission for Oakhurst News (52.435213, -1.825569) could it become a powerspot in place of the removed one? (or it’s still too close/ other reasons for it not happening?) (I don’t think it would get accepted as a pokestop, it’s a family owned convenience store, and though I saw plenty of them becoming pokestops (depending on submitter’s luck I presume), I think they are too common in the UK, so it will most probably be branded as generic business) but it would definitely qualify as powerspot.
I have also another question about Wayfarer map: why 2 most recently approved pokestops, aforementioned Lavender Lounge (52.435100, -1.825923) and Fox Hollies Park BMX track (52.437260, -1.822617) are showing on the map as “not in game”? They are very much in game, and the last one even triggered gym creation. I hope it doesn’t mean they may disappear any moment.
The community understanding is that submitting a wayspot in an occupied cell, where that wayspot is 22m+ away from any existing wayspot, will create a powerspot.
(It might be it has to be 22m+ away from any existing pokestop/gym, which is easier.)
However, the newsagent would not be eligible unless it hosts a Post Office. Being a PO is the most likely explanation for existing news stores you have seen as community-submitted wayspots.
For the two not in game, give it a few more days. I read there might have been a sync delay caused by Go Fest, so I wouldn’t worry until a sync into Pokemon Go has been confirmed since the weekend.
Thank you for your reply. Does it mean that the POI would have to be approved, yet impossible to become pokestop due to occupied cell rule? The removed powerspot was in place of previously explicitly rejected nomination.
Yes. A few powerspots near me were created at the beginning from wayspot submissions I put through which were blocked for Pogo. I’ve probably created a few more powerspots since by not caring about cells, only POIs.
That is very unlikely. Rejected nominations were not added into the wayfarer database. It will coincidentally have been a business that got included in the imported-wayspots data upload, for which a community wayspot submission was previously (correctly) rejected.

I guess it was just a coincidence then. I just wonder if the newsagent wouldn’t also be included in that imported-wayspots data upload you mentioned (I read somewhere those POI’s were imported from Google maps), it’s long standing convenience store, hence maybe also eligible as a powerspot, as much as a takeaway, but I guess they are no longer created automatically like that first batch? I honestly don’t know much about it. I just saw powerspots being the weirdest places, often not even existing anymore.
Anyways, good to know there is nothing I can do, saves me some time.

Most of the powerspots near me (excluding the ones from wayspots I submitted) are in private residential property and almost certainly from junk data. The wayspot import was definitely not clean data. That was a one-off upload and new powerspots since then have only come from community-submitted wayspots.
