Pokestop request turned into a power spot?

I appealed for a pokestop to be put on the pake amd park area here and yesterday morning a power spot is where i applied,

Does this mean that it wont become a pokestop??

Hello and Welcome,

If you can give us more details such as the Title and the GPS Co-ordinates we may be able to give you a better answer.

Pokemon Go uses a system called S2 Cells to determine which nominations will be become Stops / Gyms etc.

More details can be found at…

https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/t/why-an-accepted-wayspot-may-not-be-used-in-pokemon-go-s2-cells-and-pokemon-go

Unfortunately the maps we use to determinate whether the cell is occupied is no longer updating with pokemon go but we can take a look…

Hey @KaleMcCloud,

Thank you for submitting a Wayspot nomination! While some nominations may be deemed eligible by the community of reviewers on Niantic Wayfarer for inclusion into Niantic’s location database, they may not necessarily be added into every Niantic game. After a nomination is approved by reviewers, there is an additional automated review that determines whether the nomination is an appropriate fit for each particular Niantic game. Each game has their own set of criteria for this step, so some nominations may be accepted into one game but not another.

The most common reason that an eligible nomination is not added to Pokémon GO is because the nomination is too close to existing PokéStops or Gyms. If an existing game location is removed or the criteria changes, the nomination may appear within Pokémon GO at a later time.

Please keep in mind that while this is a common reason, it is not the only one.

Best,

Hey there,

The spot is called Woburn Sands Lake and Park Area, coordinates are these 52.015968,-0.654382

I hope this helps, as i dont know why my appeal was approved for a pokestop amd its been turned into a dynamax den :frowning:

You didnt submit pokestop, you submit wayspot that might become pokestop or powerspot depending on cell position. You nd to learn how s2 cell works if you plan to submit more.

The maps we use do not show any other waypoints in the same cell.

Options that I can think of are…

1: Another waypoints has appeared in the cell since the split in May 2025.
2: The nomination was never accepted.
3: Reviewers decided that the waypoint was not located correctly and moved it, the move as put it in to an occupied cell.

The only way to confirm is to go back to the actual location, start has if you are going to make a new nomination, at the map make sure the toggle switch is on, see if your waypoint is represented and whether it has been moved.

Good luck.

This is a screenshot of the area showing the S2 Level 17 cells - the green boxes. When selecting from the wayspot database, Pokémon Go only allows 1 pokestop or gym is level 17.
This map is not up to date so it sounds as though something else was added in that cell over the past 3 months and that stopped this submission from appearing as as a stop. It is good to know it is being used as something and you have the option a Dmax raids.

Is there anyway to get the dmax spot changed to a pokestop?

if the other wayspot that is being used as a pokestop is removed from game, then another wayspot in the L17 cell will become one in its place. there must be a legitimate reason for removal for the other one. you cannot have both in the same cell.

Hah, I know that wayspot. I’ve used Parklands Play Area as a field anchor in Ingress.

Sadly it looks like a proximity issue and really there’s nothing to be done, but I do see a noticeboard in the northeast corner of the lake which might make a good submission: Google Maps

Nominations that can’t be used as stops / gyms may be…

  • become a Powerspot (Dynamax / Gigantamax) depending on its proximity to other waypoints.
  • replace the existing waypoint if that is removed for legitimate reasons. ***
  • be used in other Scopely games.

***Do Not attempt to get a legitimate wayspot removed just to get yours on to the map. This is seen as Abuse and can lead to suspension / bans of all accounts (Wayfarer, Pokemon Go and any other Scopely games).

So it isn’t a waste of time…

You cant have both in the same cell?? But literally across the park is 5 pokestops grouped together….

This side has a gym and now a power spot, so what happens if i nominate another spot? Will it get rejected because now theres a power spot there :frowning:

Here is the bigger picture. Remember this map has not updated since May 23, and only ever showed the wayspots being used as game locations (portals) in Ingress. The bigger rectangle outlined in green is the L14 S2 cell which determines how many gyms you can have, and the smaller are the L17 cells which determine if something can be a pokestop or gym at all.

Almost all of these wayspots are in separate smaller grids. So although they may look close together in game, they are all eligible. (This is what I dislike about the staff response of wayspots being too close to be used in pogo, because it isn’t really the distance.)

You may see a couple of places where there is more than one dot(ingress portal) showing in a smaller cell. Only one of those will typically be showing in Pokemon Go. There may be some really old Pokestops that have been forced into the same cell with the way edits used to work, but the algorithms have been changed to prevent that from happening now. And sponsored stops do not have to follow the cell rules. If you have any specific pokestops that you think are too close together, you can give me the names and I can try to check on this map.

A power spot will not cause a rejection, but if it is a submitted Wayspot and not an import, submitting the same point of interest will be rejected as a duplicate. You can tell the difference by the lack of photo and description on the imported power spots, unless someone has added them with an edit.

No wayspot will cause a rejection of another wayspot for being too close. It will be rejected if it is a duplicate. If something is a powerspot in a cell that does not have a pokestop, it will not prevent a pokestop from going live in that cell.
