Hi. I reviewed a sign for a farm today. The sign continues to exist in the same location, but is repainted to a different design each year.
I think if the nomination (especially the title) focuses on the sign itself, it is eligible, and if the nomination focuses on the painting, it is temporary, is that correct?
Hello,
I wouldn’t call a sign that gets painted with a different design temporary, just that the farm likes to change it up. It reminds me a bit of a auditorium that changes the outside of the building with different art each year made out of corn (yes, Mitchell Corn Palace is a real place, and they do this).
Really, I see the sign as a place marker for the farm in general. As long as the farm meets criteria, I would most likely approve it.
Hard to say either way without more details. But in some circumstances what you describe makes sense.
Agree with @RoIi112, without more details it is hard to say, but what you describe is similar to other situations we’ve seen. For example, a wall that is designated art space and painted with a mural that changes periodically. Nominating the art space, rather than the specific mural in place at the time is a better approach IMO. So I do agree, based on the information provided.
This sign is located 200 meters from the farm shop. The paintings on the sign are parodies of what was popular in Japan at the time, combined with a strawberry character. For example, in 2021 it was a Japanese Yokai (Amabie), in 2022 a Squid Game, and in 2024 a character from the Osaka Expo (Myaku-Myaku).
