I am very frustrated with trying to make the game walkable for my neighborhood. I live in an urban area that has many living units and great walkable sidewalks. The problem is that 2 gyms for our area are located on a very busy US highway that is not safe to walk on. The second gym location was given to a Verizon store with a small parking lot on this dangerous walking area. The first gym is a culturally significant music/bar that is almost next door to the Verizon store. It is also not safe to walk to and has an even smaller parking lot. Is there anyway to assign a gym to an area that can safely be used by pedestrians?

The wayfarer team have no influence over how Pokémon Go uses wayspots and which become gyms.
Regarding safety, if you think something doesn’t have safe pedestrian access, you can report it as such through Pokémon Go or on the Wayfarer Map. That being said, for sponsored locations it’s often rare for any action to be taken on them due to the additional complication of them being paid for by the business in question.
That being said, as both of the gyms you mentioned are businesses, surely there’s safe access from standing inside the business?

Basically, no.
Individual players (or even groups of players) cannot choose which wayspots will become gyms .
What works for some players doesn’t necessarily work for other players, so it would be unfair to allow some people to pick the gyms.
Thanks for the quick reply. I guessed that would be the answer. I am just frustrated that a game designed for walking is choosing a location only safely reachable by car.
The music venue requires paid admission. It is a very small venue and is in such demand that getting a ticket is like winning the lottery. The only way I would attempt to go to the Verizon store would be by car so that defeats the purpose of walking.
Would it be possible to share the location of the Verizon store?

Unfortunately, your statements about the access to both the store and the café are clearly false. The wayspot for the café is so close to the front of the store that you could spin it while standing in the middle of the 4-lane highway, while the Verizon Store can be spun from the sidewalk, as well as when standing on the pedestrian space in front of the store. Everywhere here has sidewalks.
This looks like a very nice area. On the other side of the street is a Shake Shack restaurant and an Anthropologie store. I’m not sure why this urban area wouldn’t be walkable?
