Suggestion or Improvement: Gym Management

Sorry, I’m new to general discussions. I’m hoping a moderator can help me find the right location for my topic.

I would recommend that Niantic Wayfarer IMPLEMENT the ability to CHANGE a gym within a small area’s map in the PokéStop options.

The request is based on poorly managed gym placements by the automatic system.

A gym should typically be in a VERY busy area, or even a CONSTANTLY busy one.

So, for those mountain/suburban/rarely visited gyms, I would suggest opting for an option that changes the gym location to a more convenient one within a maximum of 4-5 km.

That is, if a mountain PokéStop is automatically converted to a gym by the system, I can choose to override the program’s decision via in-game options and choose a more suitable PokéStop, while keeping the same gyms.

The evaluation should then be converted into a gym wayspot proposal and validated by the community.

This method should improve low-traffic gyms with perpetually defending Pokémon.

Additionally, Pokémon that defend gyms for more than 60 days should automatically leave the gym.

Unfortunately this is not wayfarer issue. You need to bring this to pokemon go. Wayfarer is not exclusively used for pokemon go.

If you find that certain wayspot is unsuitable as gym, you can try reporting it.

How can I report if a location isn’t suitable as a gym, but only as a pokestop? I don’t want to remove the pokestop, but just say that the gym isn’t useful there.

You can’t. Also, it isn’t possible that a wayspot could be suitable for a pokestop (where you can stop for a while) but not for a gym (where you can stop for a while).

if it isn’t safe to be there, it should be reported as not safe.

If the stop is suitable to someone then the same can be said for a Gym.

Gyms are determined on a cell system where the large cell is approx 600m x 400m so there would be no option to move 4-5km as you suggest.

Suggest you take a look at the following which explains how PokemonGo uses S2 cells to determine stops and gyms. If you need more Gyms in a busy area then you need to nominate more waypoints in that area.

You can request a modification to a game play location in PoGo here:

While there’s no guarantee that any changes will be made, it will be looked into.

Wayfarer simply provides the database map for the games to use; it’s up to each game to decide what to do with the map and what map locations may be in-game.

We’re talking about a mountainous area/hiking trail, a few kilometers away from the town, just a couple of kilometers to get back to the town…
It seems more logical to me to have a gym in an area surrounded by 20 PokeStops, rather than a gym surrounded by nothing… sure, the PokeStop there could be useful, but it would be nice to advise the community to change the PokeStop’s shape instead of moving it.

Property owner can request to downgrade gym to pokestop by using link above

Leaving aside everything else, I like finding gyms in the middle of nowhere. I’ve also created lots. It’s a challenge to see how long I can stay in there before anyone else finds it. Not every gym has to be used for raids all of the time.

You need to know how s2 cell works. If its in the mountain there is nothing you can do. Anywhere in the cell probably empty. You cant move gym across the cell.

While i agree that i prefer to have gym closeby during raid hour so i dont need to move my feet

It may seem more logical, but gyms are chosen randomly based on how many L17 S2 cells are occupired in the larger L14 cell. It’s possible that the L14 cell that the mountain gym is in is low density, meaning it has very few Wayspots, maybe only 2-5, which would allow for only 1 gym in the L14 cell.

Being on a mountain hiking trail doesn’t make any Wayspot ineligible to be a gym in PoGo. Again, they are chosen at random, and as long as there are players that can safely access it, the gym will most likely stay as such. I sometimes play in low density areas, and I once had a Pokémon in a gym for over 100 days because it was a very small town with almost no players.

This issue is related to PoGo, so it is not actually related to Wayfarer.
However, I understand what you are asking for.
Personally, I think that using unused wayspots and rotating PokemonGyms within a certain area for a certain period of time would help solve the issue of some trainers occupying PokéGyms to a certain extent.
Also, it’s a good idea to feed the Pokemon at the PokemonGym frequently so that they come back hungry.
In Ingress, portals that are not recharged will return to neutral after a week.
Additionally, this could help alleviate the frustration some Pikmin Bloom players feel that “the spots where you can get postcards are all boring wayspots.”

However, the issue of PokemonGyms being monopolized by specific trainers is closely tied to violations of the trainer terms of service, so this alone won’t solve the issue, which is regrettable. If most trainers are adhering to the terms of service, the issue you mentioned shouldn’t be that severe, so I hope for an improvement in trainers’ compliance awareness.

@Dartolinero you have had quite a lot of advice about this topic, but it is not a wayfarer subject so I will now close this topic.
