State Park Youth Camp Site Eligibility

There is a state park that has multiple types of camp sites including a Primitive Youth Camp Site that is for reserved for youth organizations to go tent camping. The campsite is open to the public and has marked hiking and equestrian trails that go through the camp site including public use amenities such as picnic tables and hitching posts. I am looking for clarification on the eligibility of this site. Community posts indicate that youth camps are ineligible but there are some exceptions. Scout camps are ineligible unless they are open to the public. Similar to playgrounds the parents or chaperones are responsible for the children at the camp site and not the state park. Scout camps operated exclusively for scouts are not eligible but camp sites used by scouts in state parks are eligible.

Any clarification or guidance on the eligibility of this location?

To sum up:
*State Park camp site reserved for youth organizations to camp at
*The camp site is open to the public (just not open to public camping) and has trails and amenities, such as picnic tables and hitching post for horses, for the general public use
*Parents and chaperones are responsible for monitoring the youth camping at the site and not the state park

Hello @bugsymagoo3290

Camping and outdoor recreation can be great places to be social with others and explore. In your example though you are clearly nominating a Youth Camp Site. As you explain these are primarily targeted to religious groups and Boy/Girl Scouts planned trips. These tend to focus on kids under 18 years of age with a number of adult chaperones. While a few parents will be there, the bulk of the children will be there with adults that are not their parent or legal guardian. So Niantic considers this under their K-12 rejection rationale.

Please see the Criteria Clarification here: Private Residences, Farmland & K-12

I would consider all the publicly available parts would be okay to nominate ie hiking trails and picnic areas you mentioned sound like they are open to everyone, so I would focus on those.

The site itself-when you say youth groups, do you mean under 18s, or more like 16 - 25s? I know that definition can vary

Thanks. That makes sense.

No problem. It is a great question that people can get tripped up on.

The site is just labeled “Youth Primitive Camping” and the website just uses “youth” with chaperones for reservations. While they do not specify an age range, the requirement of chaperones leads me to believe it is under 18.

I have been nominating the trail markers and picnic sites with some luck. That seems like the way to go.
