Temporarily Hidden Content, long-term 'Temporarily Hidden', & Closed Threads

I guess I’m okay with some comments being auto-hidden pending moderation, but there seems to be a bit too much censorship around here.

Surely a moderator could strike out a bad word and ask the commenter to remain civil, rather than allowing that unrevealed epithet from lead to locking of a long and interesting discussion.

Is there any sound justification for this mass-punishment when only one person stepped out of line?

I’m talking about for instance the suggestion to manage photo-edits differently, but there have been dozens of threads shut down pretty much ‘just because’ and I’d like to understand why, or find another solution that doesn’t feel like our conversations are gagged.

As someone who had a comment altered because someone flagged it, I am very happy with the notification and explanation I received, as well as the alteration. It may look bad to someone reading through, but having dealt with the confusion of no notice of removed comments in Discord, I personally like leaving a record that something was there that we are no longer seeing. I did not see the conversation ongoing that was mass removed, so was not part of that.

I feel like I am on the naughty step when my comments get hidden. I sometimes go and cry in the corner for a few minutes and then I’m ok again.

Only if there are violations. We want to ensure that the platform is inclusive and welcoming to one an all. Any personal attacks are removed as part of this effort.

We do that.

We lock threads when we realize that the discussion has changed it course and is about to get ugly. This is to protect the overall experience.

they are not, as long as they are in line with the community guidelines.

I understand that it may look different from your end as you may not always have the context (due to hidden/deleted posts). Every individual on a public forum has different perspective. Something that may sound normal to one, may be offending to others. We need to ensure that everyone is comfortable around the discussions. Hope you understand our POV.

Thanks for the feedback :raised_hands:

Cheers!
