Have you given a thought to softening the blow with extending the rewards with the originally announced Lucky Trinket? Perhaps even for the Community Rewards as some people may have had trouble reaching the individual tiers? If there are still those unforeseen technical issues, could you send out the codes after they are figured out, perhaps? I believe that would bring some good will and faith back.
(And I suppose an equivalent for Ingress players, sorry don’t know what that would be :))
Btw I had something over 400 reviews, so lowering the individual tiers actually brought me into the highest one.
Thats why ingress player have badges. If u look into ingress profile, u will see there are many badges. Some people have a very longggg list of badges. People join event just for this badges.

The Wayfarer site wasn’t unusable and worked as intended, bar a few technical issues that were not foreseen. - Rather having an extension or pause of the event to fixed the issue, they have decided to end the event early which is not professional.
-
Users had access to this forum, and there was a link on the Wayfarer Forum listed on the Wayfarer site, so there isn’t really any reason for users not to be aware. - Not everyone gets the news by checking the wayfarer forum directly. This is usually spread through other channels such as discord/telegram/whatsapp and it take time for this form of communication to reach fully.
-
That isn’t strictly true. There was some communication, but it was done close to the early end date. Whilst I get it’s not fair, but it was communicated. - Fair point, this was done badly without considering time zones in other regions.
-
Corrupt? Ok, I am not going to answer that. - No comments

At the end of the challenge, the number of people reviewing would have gone down significantly, so some review may have been more accessible than before. But I really don’t know for sure as to why they were more available other than this.
- Which is true and frustrating that the issue might be all along due to heavy traffic rather than a bug in the system.
- You were under no obligation to do the challenge. It’s on opt-in and not an opt-out. There were resources available to help you with reviewing, which you only used after the event and not during. Niantic may not be completely to blame here.
-Which brings the point that not everyone checks the forums on how to work around the lack of submission. Niantic is to blame on the frustrations and issues faced during the event and should have updated and acknowledged it by providing solutions rather then closing the event and call it a day.
If you see most of the post above, it’s mostly complaining on how the wayfarer team didn’t handle this issue in the most respectful way and rather took the easy way out to close the event and reduce the requirements for the rewards. For those who are aiming for the individual review requirements and got cut short in the end, it’s no surprised that they are not happy on this.
I wish we got more badges in Pokémon Go for Wayfarer. There’s only the agreements badge, but nothing for submitting or participation in challenges
- Whatever Niantic would do, people would be outraged. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t. There was nothing unprofessional about how the challenge was conducted. I for one don’t want the challenge to be paused or extended.
- Not everyone uses Discord, Telegram or Whatsapp either. This is the official forum run by Niantic. Niantic are not going to go to every Discord or Telegram Server or even Whatsapp Groups to communicate what is going on.
- Skipping this.
- Skipping this.
- I am not convinced it’s a bug. Performance issues, sure. I don’t expect Niantic to take the system down, increase resources and network bandwidth for an event that is designed for a week. As the Company is going to be split, the number of reviewers will go down. I could guess, but don’t know by how much for sure. So maybe the performance issues will sort itself out for future events.
- Because people don’t check the forums where there is ample communication flowing by Niantic and the Ambassadors doesn’t make it Niantic’s fault. Where there were issues, people who posted here, they were acknowledged by Niantic. If Niantic could mitigate or resolve, they did their best.
Niantic handled the situation fairly well for a challenge that was the first of its kind (i.e. a Global one rather than a Country by Country). It was an opportunity for them to monitor, learn and plan future similar events of the same scale. If you look at a lot of the comments, a lot of users went full on attack mode towards the Ambassadors and Niantic Staff, but didn’t get the same treatment back. Not sure how that wasn’t respectful. I would say restrained.
I would have loved for the event to end today, as I wanted to help clear more of the backlog where it was (and if it was) needed. But if the numbers didn’t support it, then it’s understandable for it to be ended. The target was set, it was met and the event was ended early.
I guess that’s up to Scopely eventually if they want to add one.
Maybe they will add one on 10th anniversary of pogo. Haha
I hope they do. It would be nice to have more badges to work towards… I’ve played since 2016 so I have a lot of them! Would be nice to get some new ones
This was not possible. Ingress is separating from Wayfarer. The Ingress submissions had to be dealt with in a timely manner.
Tried again this morning. Still a bouncing balloon, and still an error message submitting when something to review finally loaded:
… keep talking mate, your only making yourself and others sound less deserving to be ‘apart of a community’ - doesn’t excuse the crap that has been played out. You don’t set a Pogo community day and then cut it hours short cause everyone got a shiny.
You don’t start an ingress event and then abruptly close it down because one faction has won.
This is the example being set and its disgusting - horrible customer and engagement experience. This will tarnish all those who tried and were cut short.
They made the best decision they could. The backlog was gone. Would you rather have been sitting and watching a balloon bounce for the final hours getting more and more frustrated that you couldn’t meet the goal? It would seem like a lie to keep the challenge going to me after there was nothing left to review.
I completely understand the frustration at the early end, but try to consider what it would have meant to deceive explorers into thinking they could still meet individual goals when it wasn’t possible.
This isn’t a Pokemon Go or Ingress forum and this wasn’t a Pokemon Go or Ingres led event. Your comment makes you look bitter and angry. There was no “crap” that was played out. You are aware of how many Pokemon Go events that went wrong? There’s been times when a Shiny Pokemon was supposed to be available and ended up not being available for a period of time? In some / most cases there was a make up event or some form of compensation, and in rare instances the event had been paused so that they could fix the issue. So please don’t compare Wayfarer to Ingress or Pokemon Go, just because you think there are some similarities.
To adress your first point. I am not here to be more or less “Deserving”. I just don’t agree with those who give up their time (Ambassadors) and the Niantic Staff being criticised for those who chose not to make use of the resources that are available to them (mainly this site).
Yes, it probably wouldn’t have been possible to complete the challenge for anyone wanting more reviews by that point regardless of the time it finished
Maybe they could have found a handful, but they ended the challenge because there was pretty much nothing left
I am bitter and angry, so are many others who will miss out because it was cut short.
Wayfarer was born due to the need of submission reviews. “Don’t forget where you can from” is a perfect line for this whole setup.
Unless compensation is made for the horribly run event, then many will walk away. Their trust in a simple timeline event has been removed. That’s why there is so many make up events, things go wrong and there is something to ‘keep the customer happy’.
Resources were used, but you cannot say that it’s all over before people were given the chance. I would have preferred to have sat in loading screens and had ‘a chance’ then it be taken away with “That’s a wrap”.
I think the issue is that this was an impossible situation for the team.
The community already cleared so many reviews that there was nothing left.
By that point, the challenge had ended regardless of what announcement was made or if it were left open.
The anger is misplaced - its more about whether the targets and challenge length were achievable with the size of the backlog, which is a planning issue, not something that can be helped once we are mid-challenge
Your bitterness and anger is self inflicted.
I started the challenge on Day 1 and stopped last night and was able to get over 500 reviews. The end goals were adjusted downards. I managed with the advice and support of this forum. If you chose not to make use of this forum, then that’s on you, not on the Staff and the Ambassadors.
A general reminder to remain respectful to each other.
This is a topic that will generate strong emotions and deep frustration all of which is understandable.
It is as always good to see community discussions around it and not just comments made, however do remember that it is ok to have different perspectives and this is not a situation where anyone needs to be converted to a different stance.
General support and understanding of the different places people are at is welcome.
There is no one “right” answer.
Last challenges we always got updates why don’t we actually had them now
To top off this issue, niantic will surely thank us of this lively discussion, inform that the feedback has been forward above and close this topic to sweep this under the rug.
Any minute now.
