Within the past three days, out of two locations that used to be Pokémon GO Gyms, one has completely disappeared, and the other Gym seems to have been removed and relocated to a different place.
When checking via IITC or Campfire, both locations still appear to exist. However, in the actual game, one Gym has been entirely deleted, and the other was deleted but replaced by a Gym at another location.
My assumption is that someone may have requested or caused the Gym to be moved. Is this assumption correct? In what situations does something like this usually happen?
IITC/Ingress is no longer linked to Wayfarer. Changes in Wayfarer will not show on there.
The changes you are seeing may have been caused by:
Someone reporting the gym location as incorrect, and the community or Niantic moving it to a different location.
Someone reporting the gym for removal due to meeting removal criteria (e.g. unsafe access, private residential property, school) and Niantic agreeing
The gym which was ‘removed’ alternatively might still be a live Wayspots, but may have been moved to a new location where it is no longer eligible to appear in PGO due to proximity to other Wayspots.
Within details about the gyms, e.g. titles and coordinates, it is difficult to answer any further.
Also like to note that Campfire syncs differently than the Wayfarer map does, so the data on the app may not be accurate currently. It can take longer for Campfire to show any removed gyms as such, and any new gyms as being added.
I believe staff would have access to any past data, but not users. Keep in mind that if someone appeals the removal of a Wayspot that still exists, staff would need to have the past info on it in order to fully restore it to the Wayfarer map.
S2 cells in IITC may no longer accurately show the Wayspots, as the last sync from Wayfarer for Ingress was on May 23rd, 2025. Wayspots continue to be added, existing ones corrected, and ones that need removal removed.
