Ok, I think I’m near to understand all ![]()
So there aren’t really duplicates (= the exact same wayspot 2x), there’re, unregulary, two (diffrent) pokestops active in the same cell. Playground + Guide and church + “shelter”, right?
That’s right. It’s not like the same PokéStop is in two places. The playground is in the same cell as the guide, and the church is in the same cell as either the sculpture or the shelter.
If you check these like this, you will get the results.
(Playground + Guide), (Church + Shelter or Sculpture)
Could you please write (hopefully a last time, sorry) the coordinates behind the object, like: playground 01245.0, church 3567.9 …
My hope is that someone with an accurate cell map could visulize it for you.
Guide Map 35.23519, 128.64892 and Playground 35.23524, 128.64850 are in the same cell
Sculpture 35.23228, 128.65424 and Church 35.23287, 128.65373 are in a second cell
Shelter 35.23338, 128.65341 is in a third cell
(Co-ordinates taken from the images and matched to the titles in the above posts.)
I can confirm that the “recalibration” of the cells which is now suppose to take place with location edits is not always the case.
I did a location edit over 5 months ago (prefer accuracy that quantity). This was accepted. The Pink dot is its original location, it was moved to the Pin. All of these locations have been checked in game.
My feeling is that I have done my bit, it’s up to Niantic whether they want to do the rest.
I also know of a 2nd situation that is the same but this wasn’t due to any action from me.
(Playground = 35.23524° North, 128.64850° East + Guide Map = 35.23519° North, 128.64892° East), (Church = 35.23287° North, 128.65373° East + Shelter = 35.23338° North, 128.65341° East or Sculpture = 35.23228° North, 128.65424° East)
Ok thank y’all ![]()
@salixsorbus could you show the situation in iitc?
What did you say @lama1211 Niantic did today? Maybe you need to wait for another 48h to let the synchronization fully happend?
The first thing I assume out of our correspondence is that the rejection of your removal report was correctly done. Because they’re not duplicates of eachother but sharing, possibly unregulary, a cell. The game-specific inclusion rules should make one of them disappear on the map but an official removal isn’t necessary and if the wayspots are still existing in real life, even the wrong thing to do.
Niantic responded to yesterday’s post.
You mean the rejection? Or have there been a recent move of anything from your mentioned spots?
Officially, we don’t want wayspots to disappear, but we want them to be removed from the Pokémon GO game itself. Since there’s no dedicated in-game reporting window for this issue, users have no choice but to submit their opinions through deletion requests.
I considered this, but didn’t think it was helpful for a few reasons.
- There are additional portals showing in Ingress in this area.
- Several cells have multiple portals, and Ingress doesn’t care about pokestops so you can’t tell which ones are visible in Pokemon Go.
- Several (if not all) of the locations referenced by @lama1211 are not active in Ingress so are no showing (presumably added since May 2025).
To be precise, it was rejected. And today, I checked again to provide more precise coordinates, and it appears the church location has shifted slightly to the side. However, the location confirmed as moved is also confirmed to be duplicated in the Pokémon GO cell, and it should not be completely deleted, but should not be marked as a PokéStop in the Pokémon GO game.
The locations of these two PokéStops have been updated within the last month. These updates have been reflected.
I suspect Niantic have determined that the wayspots are all valid and do exist, so cannot be removed. The issue of multiple pokestops appearing in a cell is a Pokemon Go issue, not a Wayfarer issue, so isn’t being addressed here.
This is curious, because when cells are known to be misbehaving in Pokemon Go, it has sometimes been possible through these forums to ‘fix’ the cells or the wayspots to make them appear correctly. It is difficult to deduce what it is about this situation that means this can be done here, since “two pokestops/gyms in a single cell” does appear to break a fundamental rule that has been absolutely confirmed by wayfarers [and not acknowledged by Niantic].
There does however appear to be /something/ about this case (and the one posted by @SlimboyFat71 above) which means the Pokemon Go inclusion rules are being met but “only one pokestop/gym per cell” is not.
I recently heard that Niantic has been discontinuing Ingress and Venly, so I assumed Niantic Wayfarer would be managing Pokémon GO and Pikmin.
So I was thinking that Niantic Wayfarer would be involved in or manage the cell rules of Pokémon Go or other games.
I don’t know what Venly is
Niantic Spatial was spun off Niantic and manages Ingress
The rest of Niantic was bought by Scopely and manages Pokemon Go, Pikmin and Wayfarer
At the time of the split, the same wayfarer database was shared by all games. Niantic and Niantic Spatial both got a copy of this.
Wayfarer manages the database of wayspots from which Pokemon Go draws POI to use as pokestops and gyms. What Pokemon Go does with those is not the responsibility of Wayfarer.
Recently, it seems that the cell rules of Pokemon GO are not being applied and operated properly.
