This would be considered a regular traffic sign?

I wanted to ask for some input from the community about a sign I submitted. I thought this sign was unique and humorous because of it being Sasquatch. AI rejected it and I appealed. The appeal was rejected based on it being a regular traffic sign. While it is an actual traffic sign for an area surrounding a Travel Plaza/Rest Stop, I wasn’t sure if that was what made it ineligible because it was a traffic sign. Please help me understand why it got rejected…

Sasquatch Pedstrian Crossing

You do have a point, it is not a regular traffic sign, so it shouldn’t be a clear rejection. However it is still similar to a regular sign, so I’m not surprised it didn’t get accepted.

I actually considered something more or less similar, but had the feeling it wouldn’t get accepted, so I removed the nomination.

I think since it’s being used as a traffic sign, it’s being seen as generic infrastructure, as well as a safety sign, encouraging drivers to slow down for pedestrians. I think because it serves these purposes, it may be hard to get approved, even if it’s unique to this travel plaza.

Why not allow the nomination to go through the process to get accepted or rejected?

Even though its not a common road sign, its still a mass produced sign.

We don’t fully know how ML works, but it’s possible that it saw this as a generic traffic sign and auto-rejected it. It could have even saw it as a safety issue, but it’s more likely that it saw it as a traffic sign.

If you don’t know, ML is the AI system that reviews all submissions within 24 hours. It can auto-reject nominations and edits that it believes doesn’t meet criteria.

I also agree with the appeals team rejecting this. As previously noted, it’s infrastructure, serving a service to advise drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians. Even though it may be unique to this travel plaza, it serves a purpose in keeping pedestrians safe, like similar signs of this nature that one may see at crosswalks in a mall parking lot, near hospitals and schools, etc. I know of other travel plazas and centers having ped crossing signs for drivers.

You can have practical art like decorative bike racks with different shapes go through the process. Just because it serves a practical purpose doesn’t mean that it is invaluable as art or something else.

I strongly disagree, just because mass produced bike racks are created in mass produced shapes, that doesn’t validate them.

You have to look at the bike rack and determine if it is a unique design, or something that anyone could easily get their hands on. We used to have bike racks in my downtown that spelled out the city name in ASL, which I would consider unique. A bike rack shaped like a bike is easy to find for sale online, so I don’t see if as being unique.
