Tips on appealing?

I submitted a nomination in the area by my work where we all walk for exercise. I am thinking of resubmitting but don’t want to get rejected again. I don’t think i mentioned this in the original submission. Is there anything else I should include to get it approved or any other advice?
It’s in Southfield MI.

Thanks

Please explain how this meets criteria to be a great place to be social, exercise, or explore.

As @seaprincesshnb said, your nomination must be a great place to exercise, a great place to explore, or a great place to socialize. And it has to be one of those things intentionally in other words designed to be that. Not just something that you pass while you exercise or explore, for example. You can see signs as way spots, but those signs are markers for things that are great places to exercise or explore or to be social. This sign is for a business. Even if it’s an important business or does great things that doesn’t necessarily make it a great place to explore socialize or exercise. Hope that makes sense.

Welcome to the forum!

Just because you meet there to exercise, does not make this a great place designed for exercise, so adding that information will not help your nomination or an appeal. If they provide an exercise trail, submit that instead.

Okay, it is part of one of the 1-mile loops we do through the office area. I guess I will phrase it that way. Appreciate the tips!

This sign will not meet exercise criteria, regardless of how you phrase it. It being included in a route that you walk/run does not count in any way at all.

The only way this specific sign would be eligible is under Exploration. You would need to make a case for it as that, without using “it’s a good area to exercise” as your supporting narrative.

Only try submitting this as an exercise marker if you have any link to prove that this is the start to a one mile loop intended for folks to use that way.

This is a non-profit that collects medical supplies, so the sign isn’t for exercising. It’s not really a great place to be social, as most coming here are dropping off or picking up medical supplies, and may not feel that comfortable doing so due to some possible stigma. And I wouldn’t find this a great place to explore, even though they provide a great mission, but because of the sensitivity of the services they offer.

To me, this is a rejection each time I’d see it. You may want to review the Wayspot Criteria to get a better idea of what may or may not be eligible, as well as the Criteria Clarification Collection as it covers some of the most discussed POIs.

Wayfarer is better if you change your mindset from “how to make wayspot here?” into “is it a good wayspot?”.

Well the area is a good spot for a Wayspot. There are tons of trees, benches and people walk it every day, often multiple times a day. Problem is, all the signs are shit so I picked something along the trail that wasn’t. Maybe I’ll just submit the sign that is barley legible for the mini park :person_shrugging:

Looking on Google Maps this is not a Park or a Trail. It is a piece of grass with some trees and several “Private Property, No Trespassing” signs.

This does not make it ineligible in itself but you would have to show proof that this area has been created for staff to socialise / exercise and not just that it is used for this purpose.

I could socialise / exercise on the pavement / side-walk at the front of my house, doesn’t make it eligible.

Unfortunately, that is the wrong way to think about wayspots. Lots of areas would be “a good spot to have something to spin”, but that isn’t how the criteria work.

You need to think along these lines: “what can I find that would make a good wayspot as it is great for being social, great for exploring or great for exercise”. This means things that are intended for those purposes, not just a spot where it is possible to meet up with people or go for a walk, because that would mean almost literally anywhere.

If somewhere doesn’t have anything eligible, move on.

I would not nominate my neighborhood or just anywhere I walk. I previously worked at a hospital where people walked (which had 3 stops eventually, none nominated by me) and you would think that would be the worst place to have stops based on Wayfair guidelines and all of these responses which was why I never teied. This place is different, it’s called “Southfield research park”, has benches and a few picnic tables along the loop and a mini park. I will not appeal this one but will the main entrance sign and try some of the shitty signs based on your feedback and if they get denied well then oh well.

Picnic tables, mini park (if it has infrastructure, not if it just a piece of grass), entrance signs to parks, all make eligible wayspots.

By using the term park, I feel like you’re intentionally obscuring that this is just a standard office park. When I look at the website for Southfield Research Park, here’s the amenities or highlights that are used to attract businesses to this location:

There is no mention of a walking trail. No mention of picnic areas. I understand the frustration of not having stuff to nominate. But we have all dealt with places like this.

I went on a weekend to drive through every nook and cranny of the office park like this closest to me. In my case, I found that they had a real trail with signs for “Jogging Trail.” I found a really nice little park in the center with a small stream, a couple of footbridges, and picnic tables. I also really scrutinized every business. In that particular park, there were no businesses that qualified. But in others, I have found an art studio that has art classes, a local gluten-free bakery, an escape room, local gyms, places that teach sports skills, churches, small delis, Clubhouse, softball field, basketball hoops, etc.

But it is a good idea to look at the main website for an office park to see what amenities it offers.

I would just resubmit, since charities and non-profits tend to get accepted these days. It’s obvious they have an impact on the community and this one also has an impact on the international community. Nominate the actual charity, not the sign. It would be under the social category.

I would say please don’t do that. The business does not meet any acceptance criteria. I am not sure why you said charities and non-profits are getting accepted. I’d like to hear from others, but I haven’t seen any. Doing important work (like a charity) is not the same as being a great place to explore, to exercise or to socialize. Those remain the only acceptance criteria.

This is exactly what happens at a local charity/non profit.

Again still wondering how my prior job that did not have anything like this area and was not at all friendly to any of the things y’all keep mentioning had 3 stops . I’m not really looking for more feedback. Like I said, I will try 2 of the other signs that are not in great shape and if they aren’t accepted oh well. None of you have been there so not sure why you care so much about whether or not I nominate something else and whether or not it is accepted. I was just asking for simple advice and you gave it, really no reason to reply repeatedly with the same exact information.

You never said what those Stops were. What a candidate is matters far more than where it is. Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding, but it feels like your understanding of eligibility is based more on how an area may benefit from game playability rather than if the candidate meets eligibility - something the people above have tried to help explain.

I’m not sure if you’re saying this in retrospect or going forward. If you mean it’s a hard stop now, by all means, disregard the people who have tried offering suggestions.

I have 2 things to add, here. If you’re going to try them, I truly suggest asking for help. Folks in here have had hundreds or over a thousand approved Wayspots and have reviewed tens of thousands. You don’t have to go this alone - we can help improve those chances. “-Oh well” - well, at worst case if you start making mistakes or misrepresenting nominations, you could start risking receiving warnings and that’s something we’re trying to help avoid.

Because you came here asking for advice. People offered advice. Sometimes that advice is “hey I noticed these other things that are eligible and could really benefit you or the local community.” Sometimes the advice is to move on to something else. Sometimes you have to understand and take advice even when it means you might not get what you want.

I read the above posts. I think each person tried adding something to their comments. I’m not sure why you came asking for advice when you now seem to want to complain about those who’ve taken time to try and help you.
