To report or not report?

As a hypothetical, you come across a Wayspot which is something that shouldn’t be on the map such as a SFPRP or a sensitive location, or even a duplicate.

Poll is anonymous but feel free to comment if you want to share your views. Putting up as I found two today, that I reported in another location from where I normally play, that have been there for years but the local community have left them as they are.

  • Yes, I would report and follow up if rejected
  • Yes, I would report but not bother to follow up if rejected
  • No, I wouldn’t report
  • I would consider it, and may or may not report depending on a few factors
  • If it wasn’t in my usual play area, then I’ll report it. If it is, I would leave it

I personally have no qualms of reporting incorrect waypoints.

Part of the Wayfarer process is meant to be making the database more accurate.

I do look and hopefully there is another waypoint already in the cell to take it’s place or I will try to find another locally but if not I still report.

I think at this point I hear from the abuse team more often than I hear from my siblings lol. I don’t report every single thing I see, I do it based on severity. For example, it’s more important to me to remove an AI generated/ completely fake spot than it is to remove something that doesn’t meet criteria such as several wayspots for one playground unless there is actual abuse like misplacing the wayspot. If I were to report every single wrong thing I see I’d be busy all day.

I will try to correct minor things like missing/ misplaced things in my own play area though, since it is so much easier to do it in-app than doing it via help chat or the abuse form. If they allowed for remote location/title/edit/photo edits I think I might do it more though.

I have reported a few things for removal that are no longer there, (or were fake) but I usually submit a replacement first.

There is a gym in my area which is for something that has since been removed and the site demolished, but they are re-building on that site at the moment, so I am waiting to see what is re- built before I do anything. I keep hoping they will re-instate the item the gym is for as it was somewhat iconic. :crossed_fingers:

I enjoy submitting things much more than other maintenance. So I like adding photos, and adding PoIs but I don’t find reporting very interesting so I rarely spend time on it. Luckily my area doesn’t have much in the way of fakes and I think they’re all sorted now, its more just things getting out of date.

The only stuff that is sfprp I’ve noticed is power spots, and Niantic are well aware that they have intentionally placed a lot of power spots onto sfprp so I am leaving them be. I truly believe Niantic wants them there since theyve been left so long after so many mentions. The reports I did initially were all ignored so I am classifying power spots as “outside wayfarer” and ignoring them. Power spots are where the reporting spree could happen as they’re almost all wrong
