UK Postboxes Topic

I got temple nomination rejected because of private residence. I resubmit using earlier photo. Got rejected by ML. I resubmit 2 more times with some cropping. Still rejected by ML. I appealed just today😑

@gazzas89

If I may, I will suggest some minor text changes that may push the dial over Emily.

Photo upwards (not down). Bit more of surrounding sides to it (IE background)

Title

Rare Edward VIII Cyphered Pillar Box

Description

Edward VIII only reigned for 326 days with less than 200 postboxes being created making these amongst the rarest to discover. The cypher also differs to others with a combination of font styles. With letters that are almost ornate yet simple and are neither inter twined nor seperate. Edward VIII cyphers are placed in order between George V and George VI.

Just my two pennies as it changes what is presented to Emily. so the ML may see it differently

Good luck!!!

I like the detailed description.
I also try - not always possible - to find something unique about that box. Often it’s about the location even if it is something like - originally located here as this was the site of the sub post office, or located at this small group of shops which a key community focal point….
You get the idea.

That one came through into general voting, looked like a good find to me and I voted to accept.

If you can, appeal it. There’s a high chance it will get rejected, in which case appeal it on here, in the appropriate forums.

While it may not help to get a better resolution of this Edward VII post box, remember that appeals are not reviewed by experienced Wayfarers who have special expertise in the areas in which they are reviewing appeals. They see a mail box. That’s all they know.

When it comes to appeals reviewing, IMO, we need to set out expectations lower. Don’t expect them to know the nuances of wayfarer and in our particular areas. Only expect (and you may still be disappointed) basic knowledge in the basic rules of wayfarer, approval, and rejection criteria.

Have and of our wayfinders from the UK tried to make a very basic and very detailed appeal of one of the older boxes? I wonder if one included a very detailed and supported explanation of Royal Mail, how the boxes bear the cypher of the reigning monarch when placed, as well as detailing when their monarchs reigned (and for how long), could an appeals reviewer be convinced that these have historical merit. It would take a lot of work to write up.

In this case Edward VII died in 1910, so the postbox has now been there for over a century. He only reigned nine years His grandson Edward VIII only reigned for 10 months in 1936, so boxes with that cypher would be especially rare.

From what I recall, the Niantic Staff who review the appeals have been told that some UK postboxes are historically significant. I may be misremembering this information.

Well I right royally miffed on your behalf. Not that - that helps.

I agree with @P1dg3ySlayer appeal in Wayspot Appeals forum…

I am determined this one gets in.

Alongside the anonymous Victoria era Pillar boxes these VIII edward boxes are Post Office history gold.

Speaking of gold

For the 2012 Olympics in the home towns of a gold medal winner - selected postboxes were painted gold. Bottom stayed black.

In May 2020 a few boxes were painted blue to thank NHS workers during the great flu pandemic. Bottom stayed black

And in October 2020 four boxes were painted black to celebrate black history month. Sir Lenny Henry.. Mary Seacole. Yinka Shoniare and Walter Tull. So the entire thing was black as they already had a black bottom.

So any you Wayfarer peeps seen any of those???

Did see a golden postbox once, might have been in cardiff? But it was alresdy a stop

Lol i never know postbox have so much story like this haha

Luckily, our Postboxes can’t do a one handed handstand. :eyes:

Can it do two handed handstand?

Only when the Postmen/Postwomen are on strike…

Cool. Be great to see the complete suit! or find one that had never been nominated.

Now if only one of those had been your Edward VIII Pillar boxes. Dang it

Be careful though, repurposed or decommissioned post boxes are also often painted black to differentiate them from active ones. Some of these get used as letterboxes for PRPs.

Ah well. There you go !! Thanks.. Did not know that…
