UK Postboxes Topic

OK UK Post box Crew

you can see why it all goes weird…

Just got asked to review these two photos of a Post Box in Bromley

Google Street View tells me first photo is similar (though the knitting hat on top has changed  . I cannot tell from position of trees, house fences, little shed in second photo where the second photo is in relation to first photo - yet the view of the houses in the second photo running down right hand side looks good and some house features on left hand side look good.

Thing is the second photo could be really up to date and the whole area has totally changed - leaving google map and original photo as being old

Note first photo while seemingly correct also has a number plate full on in it - that you cannot miss - note my screen grab ain’t highest quality

I just don’t know…I had enough flags to go dig. And am left NONE the wiser…

The google streetview from 2017/2017 is good for this. Google Maps

I know it’s too late for the review, but for the record, the first of those images (with the car) is definitely not this postbox while the second one (postbox in the middle) is definitely this postbox.

Maybe someone submitted another postbox (real or not) and it was marked as duplicate of this one, so the photo got added for review. Maybe it was added specifically. Either way, hopefully that photo gets rejected - the license plate helps for those people who don’t spot it’s the wrong postbox.

Seems strange to use an “imposter” for the main image whilst using the “real” POI for the supplemental when the “real” POI meets criteria???

I have used the following link for “extra” confirmation in the past, unfortunately this 1 does not have its Cypher listed but it’s clearer seen on the streetview linked by @salixsorbus

Now you have made me really look. Yeah Street View from different times actually has the PO BOX boxes in different positions. And depending on what year you travel along in street view you can see that happening.

See here and then compare with here move both ways in street view and you see it changing

And the house from 2012 when seen in 2025 now has a driveway across the pavement where the Box used to be

So maybe not an imposter and the PO Box was actually moved!!!

Nice spot. The postbox was moved in real life, because someone wanted a dropped kerb to get access to park their cars on their front yard instead of dumping on them the road - the postbox was blocking their access.

The photo on the left, with the car in it, is newer and therefore more accurate. Still a weird choice of photo - taken from a long way from the POI, not really showing the POI and showing a license plate. All they forgot to do was take the image from streetview.

I saw something similar recently, when I looked at StreetView it definitely looked like it didn’t match but as I clicked around the post box changed from being next to the kerb to being away from the kerb. It was obviously a very recent move.

I saw one similar where looking back on old streetview the postbox went beyond the current kerb line. It was also one of the older postboxes. But in past few years it was replaced with a recycled postbox ( newer than original but not ER) and moved so it was fully on the pavement. It was very confusing.

Shows how sometimes reviewing certainly throws in a few curve balls.

I was surprised a main image with a licence plate was accepted though.

But jeez reviewing makes you put in the hard work. Kinda rewarding when you work it and can then apply those learnings else where

When next in UK I have a PO Box to nominate. I will report back on my success. When I was back recently two of my PO Boxnominations were not only accepted but in game. Highly rewarding to see and then use  Thanks again for everyones view on this moving PO Box

I wondered if after the split we wouldn’t see many E II R postboxes but I’m still seeing them come through on both Wayfarer and Recon

Someone shared this in a chat about Wayspots so thought I should add it here.

I assume it is a Wayspot already.
