My application got rejected because the location couldn’t be verified. I’m a aware that the location is not viewable through Google Street map but, you can see the fountain on the satellite map. How can I improve the application in order to get it verified?
It’s hard to be sure as the picture is small but I think the supplementary could do with having a wider view of the area. I aim to have the object dominate in the main photo but take up under 20% in the supplementary - enough to identify it as the object.
Stand back more and try to include building or objects that can be seen on street view and easily on satelite.
Walk the reviewer through this in your supplementary text.eg
Building A can be seen in street view and in the top left of this photo. Object B can be seen on satelite and as you can see this is only a few meters away .
Another option for the supplementary is to use a camera app that places the GPS co ordinates on the picture. A few of us use GPSmapcamera.
I have had a quick look at the area and was able to find it on street view:
It’s not the easiest thing to see, but it is definitely there, so I do feel like the appeal reviewer has not done a good enough job here if they think that the location is unable to be verified. The only thing I can think of is that maybe your location pin doesn’t quite line up, but even so, the appeal reviewer would’ve been able to fix that if it was the case.
Edit: Screenshot showing where it’s visible, just in case the link to Google maps isn’t quite adequate:
This should be 56.2085031, 15.2833993, to make it easier for people to copy-paste into google.
I found the fountain on streetview, but this URL is horribly long. Whenever something is hard to see, it is always worth helping the reviewers, so a URL in the supporting text would be advisable.
You may want to submit a fresh nomination and use a geotagged photo as your supporting photo. If your nomination is rejected again, at least the geotagged supporting photo can be used as evidence of the correct location when you submit your appeal.
The location given by the op is exactly on top of the fountain, so it’s likely this is where they put the submission. The appeal reviewer didn’t do a good job.
I’m going to echo others about the supporting photo - you want to aim for a shot that’s wide enough to show the local area (buildings, roads, trees for example) while keeping the POI still in the shot.. sometimes that can make the POI difficult to see, so you could take a wide photo and then highlight the thing you are submitting and finally submit it as an existing photo. For example this trail marker is hard to see when you show the surrounding area, so I circled it.
