It’s all a sham. The ones getting nominated are paying money. Anyone who says different is lying.
There are a ton of non-historic value pokestops, I see people’s house with pokestops, and yes fire hydrants, hospital entry ways, schools all have pokestops.
It feels like you’ve had some really bad experiences with wayfarer and nominations. I’m not sure where you are from and some things do get through that shouldn’t. But nothing you described live in your area is eligible and are all examples of things that can and should be removed. These will be removed if reported.
It sounds like you know these are poor examples. Have you been trying to get better items through? Even if something is eligible it can be tricky to get accepted. I always recommend sharing a nomination with us here in the forums. We have really experienced folks that can give tips on the items, photos, descriptions, and even the best things to include as support.
Welcome - your accusations are quite delirous. Yes, out there are pokestops and gyms that shouldnt really have been accepted.
NO, noone has payed any money to have a pokestop/gym accepted - and i am not lying. This denial of the “avg. joe´s” contributions - yes, alot of “average joes” contributions are just not the shizzle.
When your “average joe contributions” are rejected, that basicly happens because “average joe” didnt care to read whats eligible and whats not. And please, don´t start with “theres a hydrant as a pokestop, now every hydrant should be one”. Get educated, read about whats eligible and whats not, and i am sure your “average joe contributions” will be accepted without anyone paying.
As others have already suggested, if you are genuinely seeking help with your nominations, feel free to create a new topic in the Nomination Support category. Our community is happy to share feedback about individual submissions.
However, please take a moment to review the FAQ to better understand how to contribute positively to the community.
Plenty of people do not come to the forum for help. I see names I don’t know on the Featured Wayspots Showcase almost every week. The guidelines are laid out several places. Even the forum clarifications are accessible from the website without coming here: https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/help/forum-criteria-discussions-library
The folks who are the most successful with Wayspot nominations do choose to spend hours contributing, as well as reviewing the contributions of others in most cases. Often Wayfarer becomes a bigger passion than playing the games.
These are two issues I see come up often that new submitters must come to terms with to be successful. You can’t always go by what you see in game to judge what is currently acceptable. You can’t always get a Wayspot where you want it. A lot of folks find it fun to go out and look for acceptable things to submit.
The unspoen truth; the real issue is the community, approving pokey stops. Some follow the guidelines for approving most do not. This is obvious by the pokey stops that do exist.
I do agree with you that education on what should and should not be approved is lacking. We have gone from a test to qualify for submitting stops that you could never take again if you failed to new submitters being shown some onboarding that a lot of people don’t even realize is anything they should pay attention to from the comments here. Do you have a suggestion for better education?
This is a perfect example of how you misunderstand Wayfarer. Wayfarer doesn’t approve PokeStops. The process approves Wayspots. Those Wayspots go onto a map and then Pokemon GO has a completely separate process for determining which ones it will use as interaction points in the game: PokeStops, Gyms, and Power Spots.
The reviewers, both paid employees and volunteers, are reviewing based on Wayfarer criteria, not based on whether something would be “good in the game.”
I’m not sure why it was removed rather than allowed to have dialogue to dispute unfactual claims - I thought we’re supposed to do that rather than remove posts.
The removed post included false claims about the difficulty in submitting Wayspots was expressed with a true but misleading claim about the integrity of approved Wayspots.
I actually prefer my nominations go to local reviewers rather than Niantic staff, who do not seem to be located in the same part of the world as me. It does sound like being a Wayfinder is not for you. We are here if you ever change your mind and want help with submitting.
I am going to say something that may be read as inflammatory, but this is not a job. This is all “pretendy funtime games”, as we say in another hobby space of mine. If you feel the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, don’t strain the tendons of your hand.
You have a point that this is all unpaid labor. We continue to do it because it does something for us, but like. At the end of the day, Niantic/Scopely is using us to map the world. There’s a saying I learned when I was younger: if the service is free for you, you are the product. It’s true of Ladies Night at the local bar and it’s true of free stock photography sites like Unsplash, and it might be true here.
If that’s not something you’re okay with, well, you don’t need to participate. I hope you find a use for your spare time that offers your mind dopamine and serotonin in useful amounts.
For those that choose to do wayfarer in order to find things and craft them into suitable submissions it is time well spent when you get to play with those points and the community benefits. Part of that process is reviewing to help the nominations be resolved.
No one person has to do it.
Just as to enjoy playing a game you find the level of commitment that suits you.
If you are having a negative experience with your submissions then the community will help if you let them.
If you can post some examples we can try to problem solve the issues.
Look at it this way: I don’t think paid employees are going to be paid to travel to rural/low-density areas to find good POIs to nominate, so I enjoy helping out and submitting new POIs in these areas to expand them. I don’t know if it’s worth paying for possible airfare, hotel or vacation rental, car rental, food, etc, in this situation.
I also agree that there should be more education. I just had 2 POIs that are eligible rejected by the community this week, and had to appeal both to get them approved. Picnic areas are eligible per criteria, but both were rejected most likely for being outside of generic businesses, but I didn’t submit the businesses, just the picnic areas.
