Upgraded nomination but has been in queue for multiple days

Excuse any naivety here since I just started wayfaring recently, mostly with reviewing but now doing a few nominations. I made a nomination and used an upgrade on it, but that appears to be taking longer than some that I didn’t upgrade.

The upgraded nomination has been in queue for 3 days, which makes it seem like the upgrade isn’t worthwhile, and makes me wonder if it’s actually worth putting so much time into reviewing to get upgrades.

Can anyone provide clarity if an upgrade expected to take this long or not? I’ve seen some posts about upgraded nominations getting stuck so I’m not sure. Thanks!

It can take up to 7 days before a nomination can first go into voting. Applying an upgrade in that time will not accelerate the decision.

After the grace period is over, then the nomination can go into voting and the upgrade is supposed to have an effect. Unfortunately, many people have been experiencing issues with upgrades not working as expected recently, even after the grace period is over. Niantic has repeatedly stated that despite these nominations taking far longer to resolve than is typical for an upgrade, they are “working as expected”.

Please also note that “upgrade next” is NOT an upgrade.

I may he wrong, but I have never seen Niantic specify a time limit for how long it takes. I assume “up to 7 days” must be from your experience, but I don’t think it’s an actual fact.

The minimum and maximum lengths of grace periods before community voting begins (like most aspects of wayfarer) were determined through the combined experiences of many people. So far as I know, you are correct that Niantic has never stated them.

Facts can be derived from data gathering. What you mean i tjink is that its not Niantic stated.

I’ve found it better to wait 3 or 4 days before I apply an upgrade.

If my submission is going to get picked up by Emily, Niantic’s automated review system, that will usually happen within 48 hours and my upgrade is wasted.

In general for me an upgraded submission in larger UK cities will take about 7-14 days to be decided upon.

Outside of cities an upgrade can be pointless as my submissions will be decided upon within 3-4 days without them.

That’s just my subjective experience though. I also haven’t really upgraded anything for a while, a year or so ago I would apply it immediately but Emily and challenges have made the submission process quicker for me so they have mostly become redundant.

My experience has been similar. I have found the grace period before a nomination will go into voting to be 2-5 days, but reports to the Wayfarer Discussion Discord have ranged from 1 to 7 days, as was stated. I also recommend NOT using an upgrade before at least 25 hours have passed to see if the ML (machine learning ai) model decides it. Whether it accepts or rejects, in either case the upgrade was wasted.

I can’t remember the last time something I submitted actually went into community voting, but I am pretty sure it was in March. We have gone from 2.5 years for a decision without an upgrade to 24 hours! I love ML!!

Sure, but nonetheless, it’s never been presented as fact, so no, I said what I meant. Thanks.

But that has varied over time, with things going much more quickly in the recent past than say a year ago. It’s just the way you presented it would leave someone to believe that was a rule, not your estimate. If the person didn’t know better, then they might start bombarding the discussion when their upgrade isn’t in voting by day 8.

That sounds like a very reasonable complaint. The vast majority of upgrades should absolutely be in voting if they were made more than 8 days ago.

Non-community reviews have certainly been faster than a 1 day grace period recently, but I was specifically talking about community reviews since upgrades don’t impact non-community reviews.

It will follow by people complaining about why their nominations isn’t in voting after 4 days. Looks at his 4 day old nominations

Hello and welcome,

Like others have said, Niantic has never disclosed how long it takes for nominations to be resolved; all info provided is based on what other Wayfarers have noted for themselves. It really depends on how many reviewers are in your area, as well as how well their review ratings are, to get to resolution. Here’s the info from the Wayfarer FAQ:

How many reviews does it take to make a final decision on a Wayspot’s eligibility?

This exact number cannot be disclosed at this time, however, we can say that this depends on the performance of each individual Wayfinder.

Here’s what an upgrade actually does: it opens your nomination up to a wider review area. For example, I’m in the US, and in an area with few reviewers, so at times, a non-upgraded nominations can take a few weeks, even months, for resolution. If I upgrade, then it’s open to most reviewers within the US, and I typically see resolution within a few days. Here’s what is included on the Upgrades help page in regards to this:

Note: Upgraded nominations increases probably that your nomination will be reviewed by the community faster, but do not guarantee a specific review period. Upgraded nominations must still adhere to the same criteria as standard nominations to be accepted.

Again, it depends on your review area, the number of reviewers, as well as how many nominatinos are in queue. That last part is something you can help with, as when you review, this helps bring the queues in your area down, and will help your nominations get seen by other reviewers.

Lastly, since ML was put in place, it has been taking anywhere from 24-48 hours to make a decision on a nomination. If after 48 hours you haven’t received a ML resolution (emails will say “our team”), you may want to consider an upgrade, but it all depends on how fast a non-upgraded nomination gets resolved for you. More urban areas tend to have faster resolutions, as they may have more reviewers, whereas rural areas may take longer.

To wrap this up, it turns out that it both entered voting and was accepted shortly after I posted this. Guess I just needed to wait a tad longer. So 3 days for this one to resolve with an upgrade. Thanks everyone!
