Voting on submissions for pokestops

When you go into vote on PokéStop submissions, it would be very helpful if you could search and vote on submissions in your area instead of random ones that pop up because I have gotten some from all over the world and I can’t vote on those because I don’t know the area to be able to confirm. If there was a way to go in to vote perhaps you could search by city, zip code or state.

You are able to set a home and bonus location by logging into wayfarer and going to the settings page.

Note that these locations both encompass large areas (several hundred miles), and that you also have a third large review area based on where you’ve recently played Niantic games. You may receive reviews from outside these areas if they were upgraded, but generally the upgraded ones will still be in areas surrounding your 3 review areas.

First, welcome to the forums!

Second, while being able to search by city or zip code could be helpful for your area, the potential for it to be abused likely far outweighs its usefulness.

You should get reviews from your local area by default just by playing one of Niantic’s games. You can also ensure that your home location and bonus location are set to areas that you know well, or are close enough where you feel comfortable making decisions on nominations from that area.

Remember that you will get reviews from the area that you actively play in by default, so choose a home location that isn’t your “home” location but somewhere you frequent. Perhaps a city you used to live in, or somewhere you visit often.

Your bonus location should be somewhere else in the country you live in, perhaps another province, state, or territory. Or if you are feeling adventurous a different country entirely, given the contents of your original comment I would recommend sticking to a country that speaks the same native language as you to make your reviews easier.

I just went in and set my bonus location however I don’t know where I got the other location from because it’s not real close to my house but it’s about 20 miles away and I didn’t put it in because I’ve never been to that address. But at least now hopefully I will get local things to vote on, thank you for giving me that information

Just because a Waypoint (that’s the correct word) is in your vicinity doesn’t mean you have actually seen it before. 99.9999% of things you vote on you have never seen in real life and you certainly don’t have the time to drive out there. Whether your submission is in Mexico or 12 blocks from you, you are to apply the same standards, the same verification techniques to verify that it’s eligible to be a waypoint and that it is actually even there or if someone just thinks that they deserve a waypoint in their yard.

I just don’t feel comfortable voting on a Waypoint that is a state I’ve never been to considering they a lot of times ask if it’s in the correct location because if I’ve never been there and I’ve never seen it I don’t know and when I’m voting, I want to be 100% honest and correct with the information I provide

You automatically see nominations in roughly a 100 mile square. If your home location is set to 20 miles from where you usually play, it adds nothing to what you’ll review. That area is already covered.
The exception is if you’re on vacation or business, more than 100 miles away - then you’d still see nominations from where you live, because it’s set as your Home Location.

If you’re not comfortable verifying the location of a wayspot, select “I don’t know” on accuracy, and click location.
Also, you can switch from map view to satellite, and check streetview.
See if the Supporting Information has a link that could help, or if the Supporting Picture shows the object with something identifiable behind it, like a building.

fwiw, there are parts of my own fairly small city I don’t recognize. Just do the best you can and use that “I don’t know” option as was suggested if you can’t be sure. I probably use idk on location on more than half the nominations I see. I only use “inaccurate” location when it absolutely cannot be where they pinned it, usually because I can see where it actually exists on the map but it is too far to move the pin there.

I used to hate to review away from home, but now we have plenty of skips to use if we just aren’t sure how to rate it.

You may not understand the process and that is very weird.

I just went to wayfarer to see what it would give me.

Basketball hoop in bealton VA, picture is only of the hoop but I can tell it’s plastic, supporting picture has a lot of cars parked on the curb. Map shows it is right in front of a house on a cul de sac . I don’t have “user thinks he is owed a waypoint, took a picture of something in his yard.” It doesn’t matter where it is the facts wouldn’t change if this was in Mexico. You aren’t driving for your wayfarer reviews.
