Warning Notice

Title: Incorrect Warning Notice

I’ve received a warning for improper usage, but this is a mistake. The location in question is an open public area—a grassy field where people play football. It’s not a private farm or restricted area. Please reconsider and accept this area, as it should not be subject to restrictions.
location 40,8674545, 30,3301624

I will add it when I am available, I will add it on the computer in the evening with the time in Türkiye.

Hello,

Unfortunately, your screenshots didn’t load correctly. Do you mind correcting this?

Hello @pokemus61

Thanks for opening the topic. People won’t really be able to comment until later today when you can tell us more.

It will be helpful if you can post screenshots of the emails you have received, and if there was a pop up message when you log in to your wayfarer contribution page.
If you can also post your full initial submission too then we can review it and see what the issue might be.

The aerial photo certainly looks like a soccer field. However, we will have to discuss later whether this candidate is qualified, but in the future, when nominating such a sports field, the designated location should be at the entrance or side, not in the center. This is because Wayspot will not be accessible while that playground is in use.

So here’s the actual candidate, but after looking at Google Street View, there was a problem. There are soccer goal posts, but there are sheep on the field eating or sleeping. Surely there were no sheeple at the time of your nomination. We do not know what the current use of this property is, but with this information we have to conclude that it is used as agricultural land.

No, it is not true, these sheep are there to clean the grass, they have been there for 1-2 years, the photo is actually not a farm area. and it is not private property because our municipality does not attach importance, especially in the Yenikent region, let’s say they do not like it, let’s say they cannot keep up, here are the photos I have.
I have been there many times and they play football in the summer, I wish they played more.

Again, your photos aren’t loading properly here in the forums, but since you did provide the location, 40.86746080353766, 30.33016200906703 to be correct, I can see the soccer goals, and it doesn’t seem to be on private property. However, the sheep being on Street View make it look as though its a field that gets used both for sports but grazing for farm animals, too, so it would be considered farmland.

At this point, you are welcome to appeal the rejection via Contribution Management and provide additional info as to why it meets criteria. You receive 2 appeals evry 20 days, and the more info you can provide the better.

I don’t know if you actually received a warning for this rejected nomination, but it you did receive a warning email, there is a link in it that allows you to submit an appeal. You can also find the link at the bottom of this page, which also has more info on what a warning is:

I have just clicked and the photos loaded ok for me.

They posted them to another website and shared the links. Originally, they were not being uploaded to the forums for some unknown reason. They were using the image upload link it seemed, but it was just showing uploading text.

It’s not an unusual practice to occasionally allow sheep to graze as you describe. Where I grew up it was a regular practice in the winter to host sheep - good for the sheep and a “green” solution to management of park land before being green was thought about :sunglasses:

If you go further along on streetview this is what you see

Not something you expect if it was just a field.
Pull together some evidence such as this.

If you could post screenshots of the emails we may be able to advise further.

I too believe it is possible that the sheep were brought in to help with the weeding of the soccer field. I would like to believe you, but the two images you show you have are Google Street View screenshots. The second one also shows the watermark “©2022 Google”.

The first thing you need to do is to check if the email you received is a warning or an advisory. As @elijustrying requested, please provide a screenshot of the email. In addition, could you please show us what you have submitted so that we can see the text and images of the images, descriptions, and additional information from the contribution page? That way everyone will be able to give you more advice.

Subject: A few words on the Niantic warning*

Hello friends,

I received a warning, but I think it was a completely unnecessary warning! This area is not a farm, it is a football pitch! There are places like this all over Türkiye. :joy: By the way, you won’t believe it, but sometimes they even bring sheep to graze, like natural grass

Anyway, sometimes I try to add places that are not in the game with the help of Google Maps instead of walking, park sports etc. because sometimes I can be really lazy, what can I do? Walking to a new place may seem like a waste of time, but there are places where this is accepted in some regions, thank you very much! :+1:

But I can’t say the same for this area, I try not to show that I use Google as much as possible, but if I can, I prefer to take photos, walk and add them.

That’s about it! :raised_hands:

Good work and happy exploring to all! :v:

What do you mean by this? You must go there to take your own photos. Using other’s photos you took from Google Maps, including screen snips from Street View, is not allowed.

If that is what you did, then the warning notice was correct.

If I am reading your post correctly, if you are using 3rd party images (i.e. images you didn’t take yourself), then the warning is correct.

Pokémon Go Map Viewing and Flexibility Needs

  1. Pokémon Go has become a popular game that offers players the opportunity to be active in the physical world. However, in some cases, fulfilling the game’s requirements can be challenging, especially under adverse weather conditions. Rain, snow, or the need to walk long distances can negatively affect the player experience.

  2. In this context, it is believed that flexibility in map viewing and map data should be allowed. It is a widely shared view that map applications like Google Maps should be permitted to use Google Street View maps in a way that is compatible with in-game map viewing. This flexibility would allow players to fully enjoy the game, especially when physical limitations prevent them from doing so.

  3. Specifically, due to the presence of children in park areas, players may not always have the time to take photos, edit them on a PC, and then upload them. In such cases, using Google Street View images could be a valuable alternative.

  4. We would like to thank those who provide flexibility and accept this idea.

  5. Therefore, we believe that map image restrictions should not be enforced, and flexibility should be granted. Preventing players from encountering obstacles like different weather conditions and distance limitations will make the game more accessible to a wider audience. We believe that such flexibility would improve the gaming experience and enable players to enjoy Pokémon Go more comfortably.

This will not happen, google streetview images have a copyright for a reason, namely not to copy them. In this case you would be violating that copyright, so it is time to get out there if you want to increase wayspot density.

As already mentioned, Google Streetview is copyright material. Niantic is unlikely to support the idea, otherwise they would auto add things themselves. Regarding point 3. If the kids playgrounds are busy, the answer is to either go back when it isn’t, or hope someone else nominates it. That is what I have done.

Yeah have previously been unable to submit a play area and a basketball court due to people using them at the time.

They get added eventually. Or I take pictures that I can manage without anyone in them, and without looking creepy, and try those

I wouldn’t ever use a google picture for a submission. They don’t look good anyway, regardless of being copyright and therefore against regulations to use

I’ve had similar encounter. There’s a housing estate (in absence of a better description) on the edge of my local area and appears to be a case of everyone knows everyone, so if you are someone that is new to the area, they think you are there for nefarious reasons. On one of my earlier visits, I wanted to take a picture of the playground, but was occupied. But I managed to take a picture of the adjoining Basketball Court. Within 20 or so minutes, I was acosted and ask why I was taking pictures… had to explain I was taking photos for Pokemon Go, not that I owed them an explaination as I was in public, but I didn’t want to get beaten up in an area I wasn’t overly familiar with. Nevertheless, I managed to go back and submit the playground and a couple of other places.

You’ve reminded me now of when I was walking around with another player and we found a parkour area that was being used that wasn’t a Wayspot.

The other player just asked the people using it if they could move for 2 minutes whilst they took two photos. They were happy to do so, and it got approved.

  1. Sometimes, I wonder why certain things are accepted. I try my best not to show when I use Google Street View images I’ve taken.

  2. Do you have any thoughts on this? I mean, there are places where Google Street View images are accepted, but it’s not obvious that they’re from Google Street View.

  3. There is actually some flexibility in this regard.

  4. We thank those who accept this. If it happens to me, I would pretend not to notice.

  5. This is the situation.
