Don’t you mean SpatialTintino or ScopelyTintino?
I don’t think it was that they didn’t realize, I think it was just that they didn’t think it through.
Having a community that would share the license plates was the problem, really. There would be hundreds shared within a few days. The sequential part just made it a fiasco lol.
I still have some hint caps, I can try one lol.
@NianticTintino is there any point to doing submissions now? I was waiting for spring to do about another 30 in my area. Is eMiLy still doing auto approvals for some cases?
I can’t express just HOW important this map function is. Just lacking access to the lightship map has already impacted my nominating. I recently had a mural rejected as generic business, so I appealed it, only to be told it’s a duplicate. But there was no ingress portal or Pokémon stop or powerspot for the mural, and if it is on the map, then I suspect it’s placed incorrectly. However I am basically stumped, not able to really pursue the matter further with the tools available.
This situation will become many, many times worse without access to at least the intel map.
Personally, I’m doing as many as I can right now to try to get them in before any change
Feels like now is the time to do nominations before things split, so that all games benefit
I’m really surprised that the database is being forked (and Wayfarer leaving Niantic).
Part of the Lightship’s reason for existing is to provide a platform for other companies to build these kinds of games. One does not have to use to AR/VR aspects of the platform. The collection of wayspots is sufficient to get started.
From https://www.nianticspatial.com/products/niantic-sdk:
Niantic SDK enables developers to build immersive AR experiences that seamlessly blend digital content with the real world, leveraging real-time meshing, semantic understanding, and computer vision within a versatile, cross-platform toolkit.
And I believe it already supports the whole contribute process. And I’ve assumed Wayfarer would be the tool for vetting all of that (even if currently limited to Ingress and PoGo).
Or GodModeTintino? Walks away quietly
Do we know when this change is going to happen? Is it days, weeks, months? I’m guessing I need to work on my “on hold” nominations so that they might appear in both games.
The general timeline seems to be weeks or months based on what Tintino has said.
This would be my preferred option. Feed both datasets into Niantic Spatial via Wayfarer. PoGo can add it’s own POIs as it does now.
What I fear is that new Ingress portals will take forever to approve and be subject to factional voting.
Thank you for answering my questions. I have a few more questions.
A lot of players prefer to submit on Ingress as opposed to Pokemon Go, due to the increase submitting range. Will Pokemon Go’s submission range be change to match Ingress’ submitting range?
Ingress have the ability to edit portals without physically being in range of the portal. Will something like this be introduced for Pokemon Go?
Will Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now get the ability to submit nominations? Also, will they receive more sync moving forward?
Can we get a few week heads up when Ingress is losing its ability to submit Wayfarer contributions? Also, I am assuming once Ingress loses its Wayfarer contribution right that any pending Ingress contributions will not sync into Ingress’ new database. Is that a correct assumption?
The niantic sdk (at least the public part) is focused on AR and doesn’t provide access to the “collection of wayspots.” Imagine if someone tried to build an alternative to pokémon go or the wayfarer app - players might play the new games instead of buying poké coins. Nono, that’s bad!
The “other niantic” games were collaborations with large franchises, and since scopely acquired niantic’s games division and wayfarer, I think it’s safe to assume they’ll try to make some new scopely games with the wayfarer map.
The big question is: will niantic spatial try to build their own games using their copy of the map, and are they even legally allowed to do that - or to sell access to their version of the map to other companies, as a collaboration or open sdk?
If the answer is no, then there is less motivation to submit portals, at least until the niantic spatial vision is socialized. Maybe it will be 100% splats.
oh that would be an interesting way to proceed for ingress. make a splat to submit a portal.
I actually think, since the new Spatial is focusing more on AI, that AI will be more involved on the ingress side than on the PoGo side. Yes, splats could be possible to prove the existence of nominations, but they may have to remove usernames from being shown on splats if there will still be a community review aspect.
They would have to do some serious changes to how splats are submitted tho if they were to use them in Ingress, right now they are fine with you submitting absolutely anything, you can submit a splat of a random bucket and they’ll add it to the map without asking
Counter argument.
Niantic was (and massive assumption Niantic Spacial will be) focused on mapping the real world, so they need actual locations that player or developers can scan and submit.
Scopley just needs things that players can interact with. So could easily do away with user submitted things and just import more 4sq and whatever else they can find.
The Ingress team have also shared an update
This is the text to make life easy:
From Ingress team
Getting Ready for Niantic Spatial
As you may have heard, Ingress is preparing to spin out to a new startup, Niantic Spatial. As part of this work, there are several changes that we need to make over the next few weeks:
- Sign in with Facebook will be removed as a login method. If you currently use only Sign in with Facebook to sign into Ingress or the Intel Map, please link a new login provider, like Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, via the Ingress Settings menu or your Niantic Profile as soon as possible.
- Campfire will be removed from Ingress. We’ll disable the option to send Campfire direct messages and remove Campfire from the Main menu before the end of the month.
- Your Niantic Profile will be removed from your Ingress Agent Profile. Ingress will also be removed from the list of game profiles on your Niantic Profile.
Additionally, our regular release cadence may be disrupted over the next few months. There’s a lot of work to be done, and we’re a small but mighty development team. Rest assured that already-announced events, like upcoming Mission Days and Anomalies, should not be impacted and they will continue as scheduled.
We’re still finalizing additional details with other teams but the Niantic Wayfarer Team recently shared an update on their forum here, and we’ll share more information as soon as we’re able.
I certainly would like to see all the unused POIs in PoGo to appear so everyone who couldn’t submit one that was in Ingress could understand why as they were already submitted. If spawns are an issue with the clusters in a single S2 cell space, then maybe there can be a rotation of where they spawn and despawn so they’re not stacked on top of each other.
