Wayfarer and Ingress Updates - Discussion

It would be weird to nominate the same thing in Ingress and Pokémon GO and it’s accepted in one but rejected in the other.

hmm… who owns the “automated process”? does it go to scopely along with wayfarer? or does it stay with niantic?

y’all can tell i just can’t wrap my mind around this separation yet. will deal with it when i have to deal with it.

Yeah I think small villages or housing estates are places that really lose out.

We also have a part of the town centre which has a historic abbey and almost none of the PoIs that show anywhere are for the abbey (which was renovated extensively over the last 10 years and and had a lot of info boards installed to describe life there and highlight architectural features). It always annoys me how little some enormously important location is represented where really it could be absolutely stuffed eith PoIs and really draw people to explore there

Appeal in both, one accepts and one says its “just a normal xyz”

Wayfarer was fine without ML before right?

Imagine if it goes to Ingress’ new system though to help with having less Ingress-only reviewers? Interesting thought, but I’ve no idea what’ll happen.

oh and how will geo block requests that were made to niantic be handled by scopely? that would return a lot of pokethings

They might be able to contact the requester and ask, with the assumption that no response means they are happy to reinstate PoIs

yeah curious if no system will be set up for portal reviews, and instead rely on ML and in house? :woman_shrugging:

Which set of voters do you think will be more likely to reject a nominations?

I don’t think there’s an easy answer to that. Would depend on location, how the person has described the nomination and any changes to criteria and/or eligibility on either side.

Hypothetically something could meet the updated Wayfarer criteria and not meet the new Ingress system criteria even if it’s something we would have expected to appear on both titles previously.

So to summarise, no clue. :person_shrugging:

Today I get the exact coordinates from a wayspot by looking it up from the geospatial browser. Will there be any other tool to get the exact coordinates of a wayspot? Only with this I can see whether there will be a new PokeStop or Gym.

No, it’s not. You relinquish any ownership of any data you submit for inclusion in their database.
Niantic takes ownership of that data once you send it too them, and they are free to do whatever they want with that information, including selling it to Scopely.

You absolutely have the right to request that Niantic delete any personal data that they have that relates to you, however, your nomination of that playground down the street wouldn’t qualify.

That will be up to Scopely and is not known at this time. (Paraphrasing what Tintino said earlier)

Great question,
Once we know a firmer date we’ll be sure to share. Still unknown at this time but I’d love to give you as much heads up as possible.

As far as your fourth question:

IITC Map for Pokémon GO - unfortunately that is unknown at this time and will be up to Scopely to decide once the transition takes place. I’ll be sure to mention this as a request when it happens though. Great idea!

As far as your fifth question:

I know the answer, but saying it will 100% get me flagged again.

@NianticTintino a few questions if you’re still available:

  1. If I was someone that played both PoGO and Ingress, and I wanted to nominate a location that would appear in both games, would I have to nominate it twice, once in each system? Could I use the same photo, title, and description for both, or would that infringe on the separation between Scopely and Wayfarer? Will there be a streamlined process to import locations from one map to the other?
  2. If Scopely takes over Wayfarer and Wayspots, what will we call locations in TintinoFarer instead? TintinoSpots?
  3. Everybody always asks “Who is Tintino” but nobody ever asks “How is Tintino.” If you don’t mind sharing, how have you been feeling throughout all of these changes? Is it as stressful and chaotic as it seems from the outside? Don’t forget to take care of your mental health

Edit:
4. If TintinoFarer decides to modify the acceptance criteria for locations, do you think they will perform something like an audit of previously accepted Wayspots and remove ones that don’t meet the new criteria? I think that a lot of Ingress players would not be opposed to this

One time Ingress Seer badge update based on agent’s “Portals Discovered” points when this Wayfarer News was published (April 3 2025) would be great!
