Wayfarer Map is wrong

I have been trying to get a specific Pokestop to be accepted 5x plus appeals. Every reason for it to be unaccepted has been irrelevant except one reason that doesn’t seem to effect the other pokestops in the area.

The last attempt, I looked at the location map and I saw that it was considered a school. I have lived in this town all my life. This “school” hasn’t been a school since the 90s, was bought by the Historical Society and the actual current schools aren’t even there.

The name of the building is the “Uptown School”, has my attempts submit the building as an actual school even though I kept insisting it’s not a live school?

We would love to help you, but we will need to see screenshots of your whole submission. Title, description, photo, supplemental photo, supplemental info.

Also, im gonna move this to Nomination Support

Hello and welcome,

I agree that we do need to see the entire nomination to figure this one out. It’s possible that you may have to word the title and/or description differently to note that it is a former historical school building. You may also need to provide a link from the historical society or a news article that notes that they now own the building.

But yes, it would be hepful to see the full nomination.

Here are screenshots from the Contrabutions page. This is of my 5th attempt after renaming the title “Uptown Building” rather then “Old Uptown School” or “Uptown School”.

Here is a link to the Historical Society’s newsletter in 2012 about the building itself. I didn’t even know they had a town event like this, I’m disappointed I didn’t go.

If you guys have anymore questions, please let me know.
Thank You,

Can you give us the supplemental information, too?

I think using “Former” or “Historical” in the title would be better than “Old,” or just calling it a building. I would also list it as the 1990s instead of the 90s, as it then could make others wonder if it was closed in the 1890s or 1990s.

For those wondering, the location is 42.542744232809845, -71.90881698299974, and Google Maps actually still lists this as a school, so they have it listed incorrectly if the historical society now owns it. It should be listed as a historical building or landmark with Google Maps.

Also found this on the historical society’s Facebook page, with may be helpful:

The Facebook post also lists that the former school building is for sale, so that could be a hurdle.

Sorry, here is the additional info… please excuse the tone this was the 5th time writing this. If you would like the other versions I can send them. Trying to find out the actual reason(s) the nomination have been taking down is frustrating.

Thank you DTrain2002, I will take that to heart from now on.
The last attempt was flagged from the automatic system.

Is the building to the south a school? I see a sign on Acadamy Hill Road that says “Westminster Elementary School,” and there appears to be some playground and basketball court about 42.542099618180245, -71.91005330145563. I also found this website:

I think, in this case, you will have to prove this isn’t on school grounds by providing a boundary map of the city, many which can be found online. You may also have to appeal it if ML keeps rejecting it and you are able to prove it isn’t on school grounds with a boundary map.

Although this is different from your problem, if possible, it would be better to wipe the lens and retake the photo.

Thanks for posting this. Ok, here’s my reaction…

The other nearby pokestops are irrelevant. You’ve wasted space writing about them. If it is actually a meet up spot for town events, do you have any links to prove that? You have to prove that it’s not still a school but also that the current usage meets one of the criteria: socialize, exercize, or explore. Simply telling us that its an old building, doesn’t convince me.

There is a school nearby called Meeting House, it is right Infront of the police/fire station.
How would I go around proving that the building is not on school grounds? (like where would I appeal it or show that it isn’t on school grounds?

Noted CrownFeather…

Seaprincess-
The feedback for why pokestops is not helpful in most cases so I assumed by saying “there are other pokestops around” that would prove it is not too close to a school. In regard to events, the link I posted beforehand was of an event from 2012. I don’t think I can find a link, but it is also used as storage/a tent from the town’s yard sale day. They have also been trying to make it a full museum for years now. The lawn right outside is also used as a recreation field (nothing official like a playground but just wanted to be noted). The main reason for the nomination is the historical value, it being the town school for decades, bought by the historical society, trying to make it a museum and many documents/articles/the town history book for its history. The town had many population booms so classroom size/the schools are a very important part of the towns history.

Ok, once it is finally made into a museum, then it will be a good wayspot. But right now an old building that is only used as a storage place, doesnt really meet any criteria.

Is a historic building not good enough for a nomination? Even when it was used for a town/education learning events and a yearly yard sale market location. Everyone in the town considers it to be an important building and landmark in the historic district.
There are tags for historic buildings and sites in the nomination categories afterall.

I also sent in an edit to change the building to not be considered a school in google maps.

The categories have nothing to do with eligibility. I know that is confusing. The eligibility criteria are a great place to be social (no one meets up here if it is just for storage), a geat place to exercise (no one exercises here), or a great place to explore. Explore is possible. But if the building is closed and there’s no signage to explain what it was or why it was important to the community, what are they exploring? It’s just a random building.

My own city has a school building that is just sitting there closed down. The city has been promising to turn it into something interesting for years but nothing has happened yet. It has an interesting history, but there’s no sign that details the history. It’s just an abandoned building. The city doesn’t want people wandering onto the property for liability reasons. So im just waiting for them to actually do something with it and then i will submit it.

Could you consider the architecture to fit the nomination rather than the historical value? (bell tower, columns etc. design of the building which is unlike other building in my town, or the surrounding area for that matter).

I’ve mentioned on the forum before that I have a degree in Building Construction which included a whole year’s instruction on the history of architecture. So, if you can prove that this building is a great example of some particular style of architecture or that it was designed by some significant architect (even if they were only locally significant), then that would be fine. But you will need proof of those claims.
