Wayspot Appeals

I hate that we have to appeal a rejected removal report publicly on the forum. This can lead to retaliation just for trying to do the right thing. Can rejected report appeals be moved to help chat, or to a DM here where only staff see the appeal?

If not, then can the person making the post have the ability to lock the post to all but staff? I think the community can make valuable comments, like suggestions on how to make the case clearer, but can also see why the poster may not want community debate.

Or… have them lock after the OP make the post? So the community can see it but not comment on it?

isn’t that what i said?

the op would still need to be able to reply and idk if it can be set up this way if locked. but maybe the op could just edit in answers into the original post if other responses are locked?

These two recent heated posts?

In both posts some people disagreed with what the poster thought was “the right thing”, but not sure what do you mean by “retaliation just for trying to do the right thing”?

Would you prefer the first of these posts to be closed as well, and consider the comments there unnecessary?

My retaliation comment was about having to make a public post that I am the one removing something. Some people get upset when their favorite game locations are removed. I did not mean retaliation on the forum but real life from local communities.

I would prefer my first suggestion to move the appeals to help chat instead of a public forum post. I would like to see comments closed to all but staff when the OP requests it. I make comments that I think can be helpful for anyone following the post, but I don’t always see the request not to comment.

Yes, recent requests for people who are not staff not to comment did make me think to make this post, but I have been meaning to request that rejected removal report appeals go private for a long time.

I dont bother with rejected POI reports in my play areas because of exactly this. Having this process be more private would definitely be better than what it is now.

Why does it have to be private if what you claim is correct?

I can see the argument for it being private even if everything is correct.

You may not want to say “hey, this thing I nominated that’s right nearby my local area wasn’t accepted” and risk doxxing yourself to bad actors. Even with minor things such as the Resistance Agent know has a good guess at where your nearest Portal is so could keep blowing that up, or that person who clears out a gym and fills it with six accounts now knows where an easy to get to gym is.

On the old forum, some users sent me things they wanted to Appeal via Telegram/social media to post on their behalf so it wasn’t clear it was from them.

You can use the Wayspot removal webform. That’s anonymous and equally effective.

Is there also a link where you can give permission for private house / historical building, or mini libary ad edge of property / garden where everyone can make use of it from the public side walk.

To give permission for a wayspot?

I can use that to appeal a rejected removal report? I did not know that.

But seems only for property owners or can you report any wayspot whit that page?

what about requesting reinstatement though? I’m not aware of any form for that and previous attempts in help chat have not been successful

You can fill that out as a non-property owner. There is a place to check that you are not. Then you will get an email asking for proof you ARE the property owner, but that is just an automated reply that you must ignore. (Trust me, if you reply to that one, the ticket goes nowhere. I posted about that happening extensively on the old forum.) A real human will reply when they are working on the ticket.

I hate that form. The choices on that form do not line up with what I want to report. I use the Reporting Abuse form way more often than that one.

Use the same form and call it out in the message body.

No, there is no such link.

Yes you can if you do not wish to use the appeals section on the forum.

Really interesting info about the form thanks @NianticAaron
I get very split about this.
I fully understand not wanting to make the appeal public.

But there are a surprising number of instances here where the person appealing is unfamiliar with the details of wayfinder and may not have presented the best case. Fellow wayfinders can help with the appeal, and if not done in an open space they may have not had the good outcome.
The opposite is true of the wars that erupt over removals / reinstatement for gameplay. These are ugly to watch. However the fact they happen in public makes it clear what is going on.

The team will guide them in that case (if you’re talking about missing information/context etc).

Yes that is what I meant and it’s good to know.
