Additional Information: The wayspot “Leuchtturm Roter Sand” has been wrongfully removed from wayfarer. Pedestrian access can’t be the issue. The lighthouse can be accessed by anyone by boat, there are lots of boat tours to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is THE maritime landmark of Germany, a historic building that is a listed monument. Alright. You may have your reasons. It’s still hard to understand that a historical monument is not worth being a wayspot but unpainted powerboxes are. Anyway, Niantic makes the rules, even if you don’t understand them.
Thank you for your explanation @NianticAaron
I cannot understand this decision. What is the reason? The lighthouse is a tourist attraction. Boat trips are organised. From Hellgoland or from Hamburg or Bremerhaven. It’s a landmark in northern Germany… perhaps you can take a closer look.
Greats
From my personal view I can’t see any safe place where you can stay on foot in that place to play any of the games. If it had a path or something it would be easier but it just have a stairs to go up there and I’m not sure if anybody is able to enter there.
The lighthouse is a listed building and therefore the tourist boats only drive around it. But you can also go there with your own boat. It’s not possible to walk on the mudflats here at low tide. But it’s easier for me to play here than in any of the company grounds
I don’t see why this shouldn’t be safe passage. I wonder that there are waypoints on company grounds that are not allowed to be entered by the public (so no safe passage), taking photos is prohibited (how could such a waypoint even end up as such) and Niantic is constantly rejecting these appeals. Not to mention all the waypoints in military installations. I sense a glitch in the rules, but as I mentioned above, I have no problem to accept that. It’s just sad, that there is no understandable explanation. This only leads to frustration and it isn’t motivating to do further exploration.
This might be the issue. Tidal pedestrian access is iffy from past removals/restorations, limited-access meanwhile is a-ok from the tooltip. Let’s see if these images can positively change the outcome.
@Gammelfleisch Pedestrian access and access permissions are commonly conflated issues. One is concerned for whether you can walk to the object safely. The other is whether or not certain people will be allowed regardless if on foot or by vehicle.
You can view the tooltip from each section on the review page. Granted, the industrial/military worksites are also counted as unsafe/OES locations.
This is for the submitter to uphold and if can be proven, is a valid reason to remove. I don’t see how reviewers are aware of specific guidelines for every specific location. Property owners can request such in the removal forms above.
This may be the case for all new submissions in military installations but there are lots of waypoints in military installations and they all stay, so referring to the tooltips of the review sections is a bit senseless.
And regarding waypoints on restricted company grounds: You do not really believe that a company is requesting the removal of a waypoint that some employee added into an online game just because someone who doesn’t want that waypoint is requesting it
Where do you live my friend?
I’m confused. Is the issue here the non-permanence of the installations?
How so?
Churches have requested to remove a lot. Even businesses who found the playerbase a nuisance. I can see some extremely strict entities requesting removals but behind closed doors (a.k.a. the forms). There may be real life consequences for going against company policies but due to the nature of the problem, I don’t think we’ll be seeing examples here.
Nominations of or within Military bases are generally ineligible. However, if the nomination is of a park or public area that is open to the residents of the base or the general public in the military base it will meet our eligibility criteria. [image] +1 This picnic area which meets the socialization criteria is eligible. It’s located in the residential part of the base and accessible by military personnel and their families. The military community - definitely not the public - gets exceptions. The travel community, willing to mount a boat and making a tour to a historical monument is not considered to get such an exception.
Anyway, my heart is not set on this lighthouse and I see waypoints in military installations and on company premises more as a challenge to get to them. I just want to point out that the rulebook is unfortunately quite inconsistent, but I don’t have a better suggestion other than simply excluding military installations and companies completely.
I don’t understand why this portal has to be removed. I’ve never been there, but it’s a pity it has to be removed. You can get there by boat, and it has a long history. I prefer this kind of wayspots above all the trial markers and other stuff, because this is a real piece of history. And you can book it as a hotel! https://www.bookalighthouse.com/nl/paginas/besparing-vuurtoren-roter-zand
“Roter Sand” has been accepted as a portal in an individual check in June/July 2018, supported by Andrew Krug (RedSoloCup). Thus it is completely unclear, why the portal was now removed.
Some things need to be clearly stated:
This lighthouse is no longer in service since 1986
It is a “technological Museum” and a “hisorical Monument”
It is possible to stay over night like in a hotel.
Access to the artificial island is not hindered or even prohibited.
The museum is open to the public.
This Portal is a clear Wayfarer hotspot if not a gem!
Yes, you need a boat as it is offshore (like any island)
Yes, you need obey opening hours if you want to enter the lighthouse (like any museum)
Yes, weather conditions might not be sufficient to go there (like with any other portal)
And in fact you do not even need to disbark from your boat to interact with the portal, you can easly stay that 30m away.

P.S. This was in the application from 2018:
The portal is the famous lighthouse “Roter Sand”, know to sailors around the world since 1865. It was the first ever build offshore building. It’s uniqe design has inspired artists for thousands of pictures and miniature copies for a garden lighthouse. The Lighthouse was unlit in 1986 and turned into a technological museum. During the summer the LH can be visited and it is even possible to stay there for a night or two. Visiting is only limited by capacity and schedule.

Its simply not the first case nor the second or third we face such out of the blue decisions without any proper statement or reasoning from this guy. Such simply sucks, hits greens and is obviously another puzzle piece of the demotivation game at least some at nias place seemingly love to play to reduce serverloads or out of whichever else reason. Just another example out of uncountable many.
Even if Niantic makes the rules, its still confusing. Will they remove all the Wayspots that are only accessible by boat? What’s the point?
Not going to fight this since its an old thread, definitely interesting to see how far the rules can be bent. I think we all understand the “Pedestrian Access vs Limited Access” I thought the point of this game was to travel, and yet, a waypoint by boat was removed. Might as well remove all island wayspots that are only accessible by boat.
