When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:
-
Wayspot Title: Sperm Whale Skull
-
Location (lat/lon): -32.067369,115.837845
-
City: Murdoch
-
Country: Australia
-
Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
-
Additional Information (if any):
The whale skull has been removed from this location but the plaque is still there, the plaque is now hidden behind a bike locker in this area.
The skull would’ve been located between the black and white cars.
Even if the skull was once there, they shouldn’t be removed.
These also are not rejection emails, but submission emails.
I wasn’t sure where I could submit the edits for this POI. Can I close this topic or can only Niantic close it?
Have you had a response from your photo submission? You could do 1 of 2 things.
- You can edit the photo and description, since technically the title would be the same. In this case you can submit the new photo and get it approved and upvote it.
I read that the Pokemon Go image seems to be what edits are based off and it turns out that seems to be the case as some newer photos for wayspots in ingress with say an updated nature sign is still showing edits for the Pokemon image, not the Ingress one. So then you need to upvote the Pokemon one.
However, you can connect with help chat to have the old photo removed. I have not had great success with them as it usually causes issues with the wayspots and they end up inaccurate, with me requesting removal, or help chat removing it.
Hopefully you have better luck. To be fair, I have only done a few media removal requests, and one did work. That was a wayspot ML thought was a duplicate.
- You can submit the plaque as a new wayspot, since technically it is different. Then remove the skull. Since it is now gone
Also looks as though the location could be updated a bit too for that.

I didn’t get a chance to update the street view of this location with a photosphere this afternoon. But there’s another issue with this location as well.
The plaque is now located behind a bike locker, you wouldn’t know it’s there unless you went to the back of the locker. (One of the campus staff had to show me the spot or I would’ve submitted a POI removal ticket instead.)
Oh a hidden wayspot! Even better. I personally love these kinds. Might be easier to just update it all. Wonder if the skull was removed due to vandalism or something.

I’m actually not sure, this belonged to the University and could’ve been donated to the local museum.
