What do you do as a reviewer when you get this?

I didn’t know what to put for this review as they seem like completely different spots and it was an edit review so I dont know how it even became a wayspot unless the picture is old and there used to be a playground here until they built a warehouse in that location. What is the appropriate thing to do when you get an edit review like this? I’ve been getting a lot more shady reviews lately it seems and I’m not sure if flagging this as abuse is really correct as maybe it is just an old stop.

I would have no problem checking “Unable to find an appropriate location” and moving on. If you want to pursue this more, then you could report the edit to help chat, since it does not seem possible for this to exist at either location.

fwiw, this is the location, and i will do the report. it can’t possibly exist here

Street View shows the warehouse did not exist in 2019 (where work seems to be taking place).

2018 shows the sort of area where the playpark could have existed.

Definitely not there now so should be removed.

I didnt know you could look back at old street views in Google maps. Thats cool! Also, I’ve only used the help chat for a couple long-distance edits so I didnt know you can use it for more things.

Though I have recently become discouraged with the number of repetitive resubmissions of edit locations when reviewers have likely kept checking ‘unable to find appropriate location’. There has been a fountain edit inside a large hospital building that has had location edits sent 9 times. I think I’ve reviewed most of those. I would think the AI would start saying thats spamming. Its so annoying to get the same edits over and over again. I had a restaurant where people were editing the description seemingly back and forth about what kind of food they served several times.

This is when I would do a report to help chat - when I start seeing edits come through for the same thing. If I can find the actual location, I would do it as a location edit to the correct location. If I cannot find the correct location, I would make an abuse report for the Wayspot.

I don’t know how the machine learning model could be trained to understand the issues with spamming edits.

Wow. I guess they get to keep their park inside the building.

(Edit: It could be that someone else reported it first. Will check when there is a map sync.)

I do sometimes wish the rejection emails could be a little bit more clever.

Someone has reported a wayspot needs to be removed:

  • wayspot exists and won’t be removed - send “report will be rejected”
  • wayspot no longer exists (but obviously did) - send “wayspot has already been removed”

Someone has reported a wayspot needs to be moved:

  • wayspot is at that location and won’t be moved - send “report will be rejected”
  • wayspot is not at that location and won’t be moved - send “wayspot has already been moved”

That would be ridiculously easy to implement as part of an automated response.

It seems that the waypoint has been moved to a “more” plausible location.

This is helpful for learning what is the ideal way to deal with edits like this is. I can be particular when it comes to some things like not just checking ‘Unable to find appropriate location’ in clearly wrong areas. Thank you guys for the in-depth responses! Thank you for submitting the edit too . It makes me feel better that the playground is outside now and people wont be trying to wander closer to the Amazon Warehouse or something.

lol have no idea how they decided this. i don’t see it on satellite view, and the street view stops too far away to show it. maybe they have different maps than i have access to.

i don’t see any of that concrete in this photo of a playground

and there is a different wayspot for the park itself if the new pin placement is meant to represent the “park” in the title instead of the playground pictured. i also can’t see any evidence of this sign on any map, but is more plausible.

but i can’t go there in person, so as was said, at least it isn’t inside the building anymore.

Niantic have relocated this wayspot onto a plot of greenspace that has already been built over with a huge office block.

Both “Park At The Crossing” (39.301143,-84.463807) and “G.E Park” (39.300450,-84.463743) no longer exist and should be removed.

This streetview from the north of the plot show this was known as “Crossings at the Park” in 2014, which matches with the playground being called “Park At The Crossing”

Nearby, I found one set of playground equipment on this plot in 2014, and the 2011 images even show something else further into the plot and closer to the former wayspot location.

From 2017, everything is abandoned and becoming overgrown.
In 2019, everything has been removed
In 2023, the entire plot has been redeveloped - everything, even including what ‘satellite’ shows as a park

This greenspace no longer exists:

Check out the latest streetview from Princeton Pike to the west of this “greenspace”

It why I said: “more” plausible location.

I was not going to state “correct location”

@NianticAaron can you address this with the information that @salixsorbus has found?

I have used the wayfarer map to report both wayspots. Even though I don’t live anywhere close to them, it hurts seeing Niantic move a wayspot from a location where it cannot exist to a location where it cannot exist. I included a link to the current streetview image (the last one in my previous post).

Interesting example that the ‘satellite’ images are very out-of-date. I do wish google would put the actual image date on the ‘satellite’ images instead of marking everything as (C) 2026 regardless of when the images were taken. This may be why Niantic made a mistake and relied solely on the ‘satellite’ images, thinking they were new.

Both wayspots have been removed. The wayfarer map is showing nothing here and this matches with the emails I got saying that both “Park At The Crossing” and “G.E Park” have been removed following my reports.

The report/web report button on the wayfarer map is useful

That is what I used as well that was rejected.
