What is it that niantic are unable to verify?

Was rejected initially but with the appeal I included a link to the community group that runs this.

Location is clearly visible via satellite so no idea what they can’t verify about this?

This looks like someone forgot to fill in the cut and paste. Can you provide the details @NianticAaron ?

I’m not even sure why this was rejected. Allotments have previously been clarified to be eligible under the social and exercise categories, and @elijustrying tends to be a champion for them amongst ambassadors.

They do have their own website ( Long Ashton Growers | Transition Long Ashton ) and they’re also listed on the local council website, so they can be verified to exist. I’m not sure what else would need verification.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was rejected because the main photo doesn’t show the sign for the allotment the best, but it’s there, just hard to pick out. It’s the same wood as the fence, and the name carved into it.

Also, I bet it was rejected by ML, or “our team,” and not reviewers, “our community” in emails, as ML tends to prefer place marker signs. That’s what I’m getting from the rejection reason given by the appeals team, and they tend to follow many of ML’s decisions these days.

Yeah, this needs to be looked into.

This is also clearly visible by satellite view and I placed the marker on it. This was initially rejected by the ai filter

correct it was rejected by the bot. I can see why it would given it isn’t a great filter.

I mean - the sign IS front and center in the photo. I get the bot ai not seeing it but people should have.

This should be acceptable.
@hankwolfman is correct I am a fan of allotments, great places for socialising and exercising.
There is no need for signfarer and often there isn’t one . I have had them accepted without. As you say they are easy to determine from streetsview.
A good description of the allotment then in supplementary the weblink Hank found should make it solid.

Allotments are super obvious on satellite. I voted positively for one today where the nomination didnt show a sign

I have no idea why the appeal didnt work, nor why it was not even fully written. I very much hope Niantic can see this post and overturn the decision.

Allotments make fantastic waypoints - hugely important to the surrounding communities. People make friends there, and share produce and seeds, they often host community groups, they really are special places

Can you see this anywhere? @scfchatter

Nope not there.

I guess I’ll never know! It’s been accepted which is great.

Hi Eli this got auto rejected very quickly by the bot

Emily the bot doesn’t always get it right I’d use that appeal button. Make sure you include a link to the council website so they can check. Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes..

I haven’t submitted an allotment for awhile…..must go find one.

I think ML may have had a hard time telling what exactly was nominated from the photo. There’s a lot in the photo, nothing that’s centered on a specific item to identify the community garden. It may have even looked at the photo and thought it was just a bunch of junk.

It’s difficult even to think about how ‘mechanistic’ the machine-learning algorithm is.

I’m guessing the machine was searching for an object that it could compare to other accepted nominations. Since the primary photo is fifty percent cloudy sky and has no foreground object, Emily concludes that this photo is a good match for generic rejection (a photo of nothing).

The tolerances for acceptance by the machine can be rather different than those for human reviewers. ML wants to accept photos that seem similar to others that have already been accepted, and to reject those that resemble what has already been rejected.

As others have remarked, the garden beds don’t stand out prominently enough in your photo for ML purposes, although a knowledgeable human could see what you submitted.

Wow this is new to me. Things like this is not common in my place. I dont even know whats allotments before i google it.

Thanks Nia team appeal accepted!
