Allotments

I dont like the ML being back :sob:

there are the good and bad sides of Emily. Sometimes it’s gonna be frustating, but the qeue from nominations in review look lots better in my opinion

It had absolutely no business rejecting that. No business at all.

For anyone not in the UK, an allotment is a series of fruit and vegetable gardens on public land - people apply to the council for them, and there are long waiting lists. Having an allotment at one of these sites is fantastic for people’s mental and physical health and there is a strong sense of community at the sites as everyone gardens together. They are spaces that are very important for encouraging biodiversity.

This allotment is pinned on google maps, and its visible on satellite. My picture is clear, doesn’t have too much ground, sky or green. So why? I don’t particularly care to have the queue cleared out if its just going to be a load of bad rejections. Meanwhile all my photo additions recently remain unresolved, and that was one thing the ML used to be great for.

I absolutely agree with you that Emily had no clear reason for rejecting this. I am guessing it saw this as a normal street sign and rejected it because of that. I think the appeal for this one will be an easy one, but it is indeed still a wasted appeal. I do also notice that my photo nominations aren’t being accepted as often anymore as they used to be. I feel your frustration, but we have to live with what we have.

Oh I’m sure it will be a rejected appeal too, they like to reject things for inaccurate and inconsistent reasons for me. Like those picnic areas, and a hospital with no emergency department.

I had a lovely day yesterday submitting things and was so pleased to find an unsubmitted allotment (rare, since they are popular and obvious submissions), and this has completely ruined it.

If the appeal gets rejected like I just saw with a friend which was incorrectly rejected, just put it on the forums and hopefully it will all be fine then.

Please don’t let 1 rejection ruin your whole day.

Have a great day and enjoy it

The forum can help, but not all the time, since there is no formal place to put those posts and no proper process.

Some are dealt with fast like the picnic areas, but some are ignored like the hotel bar with a children’s menu and the hospital plaque with no emergency department.

It ruined my enthusiasm for doing more submissions for now. I had been planning to go back but now I see I will have to be in the right mood where I can handle being told to ā€œreview the criteria againā€ when I do not need to

Cool, bars with children’s menu and children dining in them dont allow children, got it. Thanks for the confirmation on that topic, Niantic got it correct and ignoring me rather than confirming it to me was extra helpful in that scenario.

Do have a vent, we all need to sometimes but…
Don’t give up @frealafgb

I have had allotments approved and approved on appeal

That one didn’t even have the advantage of a sign

So it is possible so put together a good appeal.

Not going to pretend that I get things every time and there are some rejections that have annoyed me. However on the scale of things the positives from yesterday sound so much better than this annoying bug buzzing around you.
Big hug :people_hugging:

My allotment nomination was Rejected by Reviewers and then the appeal was also rejected.

Unless I joined the Allotment Society so that I could enter it was difficult to get a decent image but I got the gates with the signs but they didn’t like it :frowning:

I later took several images including a GPS Camera App image and made a collage then re-submitted. This time it worked.

It is annoying when eMiLy goes against a good nomination but I will take it to avoid the mountains of coal we have had over the last few weeks.

Take a break, relax then come back fighting fit. You will get your nomination through

Good luck.

I’m going to split this from the main Emily topic as we seem to be talking more about allotments and the problems of getting them approved

I blame the warning sign.. It clearly showing why it is a dangerous place to be!! Ok, I am stretching my imagination a bit here…

Me being based in the US, I had to research what an Allotment was.
The Benefits of Allotments | The National Allotment Society

Interesting that things like this get caught up in cultural differences.

that was my guess, too, but i just realized i didn’t say that here. but idk.

This is the 3rd one I’ve submitted - hadnt found an unsubmitted one for years. The other 2 were accepted by the community. I have no doubt this would have been accepted by UK reviewers as allotments are really well known and well loved in the UK.

Just makes me sad that the ML means I can’t get UK specific things in front of UK reviewers anymore - my choice is a machine or an international pool of appeal reviewers

Sometimes I wish there was an option to send to regular review - ie not an appeal but a send to voting choice.

I find it so odd that allotments in the Uk seem to get rejected so often, yet they meet criteria as a great place to explore, as you can learn to grow your own food, and a great place to socialize with other gardeners.

It seems that past rejections from reviewers may have influenced ML into rejecting these, which seems unfair. It’d be nice to reteach ML about allotments and how they meet criteria, and not go off of incorrect data it may have been fed.

I’ve never had a community garden in the US rejected, which is almost the same as allotments, with some minor differences.

I think an issue is the how do you get a good photograph as sometimes there is not much there.
You often have to take pictures by poking a camera lens through a fence.

Those were both through a fence. And the first one is the more common picture to get. It’s hard to get a nice photo given subject matter and a fence.

I also think the words on that picture probably didn’t do any favours., warnings and officialdom.

A farm is owned or rented by 1 family who live in the land there, but an allotment is owned by the local council (usually), and small parts are rented to local people for them to use for growing fruit, vegetables and flowers for themselves, while they live elsewhere. So an allotment is a series of little gardens with some sheds but no housing. I posted the satellite of the one I nominated - as you can see the little plots are pretty distinctive.

As @DTrain2002 said I do wish the ML could be taught that allotments are a fantastic place to socialise, exercise and explore and make for excellent nominations. Having an allotment is a dream for a lot of people and everyone I know who has one absolutely loves it and says how good it is for meeting people and getting fitter and happier. People would share seeds and produce and learn tips from each other too

Having an allotment often stays a dream, as there are frequently long waiting lists where you have to wait years to be offered a plot.

@Mystogan5097

Globally we need to become greener in what we do and green spaces in cities and being more sustainable with food is really important.

Each allotment Area is a community of allotmenteers and they have a committee that runs that set of plots. There are often rules about what you can grow, and about keeping plots tidy and in good order. The community shares seeds and cuttings and growing tips and often they share tools etc. They also often offer excess food to anyone who needs it ( Glut boxes).
So the physical labour and being outside is good for the health and comradeship of being together is a great social experience.

I have 4 allotments near me and 3 large community orchards - I have been picking a lot of fruit recently :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I think we all know that planting fruit and veg in a community garden is extremely dangerous to the wider population.
