Why are sponsored stops not going away if the sponsor is gone

In my area there’s two EEs (phone shop if don’t know) but in the past year have gone

Sponsored pokestop are not wayspot and not under wayfarer. You need to ask pogo to do that but normally sponsor are not in hurry to remove them. So my advise are just wait till sponsored period end. It will be gone by itself by then.

You can report sponsored stops/gyms that should be removed at the link below:

There are many other steps that we are not made aware of when it comes to removing sponsored stops/gyms, so removal may not happen right away.
