Why did multiple approved Wayspots not sync to Pokémon GO? (Alameda – Plaza de Armas)

Hello Wayfarer Team,

I’m writing to request clarification and (if possible) a review regarding several of my approved nominations in Plaza de Armas – Alameda. These nominations were accepted in Wayfarer, but after approval they appeared in another Niantic game and did not show up in Pokémon GO, which is the game I actively play and the main reason I submitted them.

I understand that acceptance in Wayfarer does not guarantee placement in every game and that each title has its own inclusion rules. However, in this case multiple approved Wayspots in the same area ended up syncing elsewhere, and I’d like to understand what criteria caused them not to appear in Pokémon GO (e.g., proximity rules, density limits, map sync, etc.).

Could you please confirm:

  • Whether this outcome is expected based on Pokémon GO’s inclusion rules, and
  • If there is any official way to request a review/check of the Wayspot locations or sync behavior for Pokémon GO?

I can provide the list of approved nominations and any relevant details (titles, coordinates, approval dates, screenshots) if needed.

Thank you for your time and support.

Welcome to the forums

That narrative about “other games” is easy to misunderstand, since it is badly phrased.

Wayspots exists in the Niantic database. Pokemon Go draws from this database, as do other games. Each game is separate and has no effect on the others. Wayspots don’t get “used up” by one game and then become unavailable for Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go has inclusion rules based around pokestop/gym density, meaning that when wayspots are too close together, they won’t all appear as pokestops/gyms in Pokemon Go. Ignore the “other games” narrative and read this as “this wayspot doesn’t appear in Pokemon Go because it is too close to something else”.

Please see if this topic helps: Why an accepted Wayspot may not be used in Pokemon Go (S2 cells and Pokemon Go)

I can’t tell where this is from the screenshot, but would be happy to look at the location if you provide gps coordinates.

Because of their proximity to the existing pokestops Municipalidad Provincial - Tingo María and Busto José Quiñones, these new wayspots are not eligible to appear as pokestops. They may end up getting used as power spots.

Hey @NianticAaron!

Thanks for confirming this is expected behavior.

Given that these accepted Wayspots are not eligible to appear as PokéStops due to proximity to existing PokéStops, is there any official option to remove/retire them from the Wayspot database (Lightship) even if they are valid, so that we could re-nominate in the area in a way that has a better chance to appear in Pokémon GO?

I’m asking because my goal is to contribute to Pokémon GO gameplay in that location, but I also don’t want to misuse the removal process or do anything that would be considered abuse/duplicate submissions. If removing valid Wayspots is not possible (totally understood), could you please advise what the best, policy-compliant approach is to create more Pokémon GO-eligible locations in that area?

Thanks again.

Removing valid Wayspots and resubmitting them so that they will show up in Pokemon Go would be abuse.

This area is already tightly packed with Wayspots.

When you submit wayspots and there is a legitimate choice of locations, you can choose the location that will make the wayspot appear as a pokestop/gym in Pokemon Go. Examples are playgrounds, sports fields, buildings with multiple entrances, large murals. Once a wayspot exists, you cannot move it in order to make it appear in Pokemon Go if it is already in a good location.

When there is not a legitimate choice of locations, but a single point, you cannot move the marker somewhere else in order to make the wayspot appear as a pokestop/gym in Pokemon Go. This is considered abuse. Examples are trail markers, information boards, small murals.
