Why do they reject everything?

No matter how well you list it, label it, photo it. Always rejected. I cant see how Niantic are happy to have their community essentially decide who can and cannot play the game. Odd to have unpaid gatekeepers preventing people from spending money on their game?

Good day and welcome to the forum!

I highly doubt that everything is being rejected. Can you show some examples of these nominations?

Oddly enough, this avenue of putting wayspots for potential game objects relies on community involvement and that the community can discern and vote within the criteria and guidelines presented.

No, as it is done in game and I have absolutely no idea how to link to them, sorry.

Just find it very strange that from my experience that the standard position on these matters is no. Odd position for a community to base itself on.

You can take screenshots.

Everything is not rejected, but the amount of nominations rejected definetely has inceased. My latest ones include mural (won on appeal), information sign (didn’t appeal, because I just don’t care anymore) and pub (lost on appeal). Btw, since when we reject pubs that serve food, have pool tables, host live sports matches, etc. in UK ? Or these, so called, niantic appeal reviewers are all based in the states and don’t particularly understand what a pub in the UK is all about?

From the times the appeal decisions arrive, I think it is more likely that the appeals reviewers are based in Asia somewhere. I also find they struggle with accepting nominations that indicate adult beverages can be purchased.

The link @NvlblNm has put is also where you can edit the text, upgrade, and withdraw nominations. Another page in the site is a set of criteria that might have been glossed over from the submission process.

We’re odd enough to catch digital monsters, make triangles on a map, and pay attention to every detail from a set of specs. It can be that there is a mismatch of expectations from either side of the process. Workshopping and discussing specific instances can spark different results and expectations.

Who is someone from outside of the local area to decide what is significant to the local community. They can’t, nor can they tell anything of the requirements without being at that location. No photo will give you that information.

The default position should be yes in 99% of the instances. Not a no with no clear instructions as to why it was rejected, other than not meeting criteria.

I just want to catch little monsters as you put it, I want to do it locally. I want to have fun. Apparently someone in Alabama or Singapore has decided that I cannot have fun locally.

Hi @poly1celt,

It can be frustrating to get things approved. And I do think you have a point about what is locally culturally significant. But Niantic also tries to target local folks for reviewing nominations. So it’s unlikely you are getting many people far from where you live - so hopefully they understand.

The exceptions to this are Upgraded nominations as they pull in reviewers from a wider region, but still centered on your nominations location if I understand correctly.

The only other way someone from truly far away is reviewing your nominations is if they have selected your area as their bonus location.

I know this doesn’t help work out the current rejections, but it’s good to understand the big picture.

Best of luck!

It is the job of the submitter to show to reviewers how their nomination meets the criteria to become a wayspot. A wayspot should meet at least one of the criteria of exploration, socialization, or exercise.

Someone not from that location most certainly can tell if the nomination is eligible. Most nominations are rather easy to decide.

Hello,

Yes, not everyone knows how to take screenshots, but there is info easily available online. Here’s a good site I came across when searching how to take a screenshot, and it includes many different devices/operating systems:

Luckily we don’t rely solely on photos. We get to see text as well.

Generally UK reviewers dont reject pubs, albeit its been a few years since I submitted one since the ones around here are all done already- every single pub in my area is a waypoint and I dont think thats unusual.

Would 100% recommend trying again and you can always post your nomination here while its on hold so we can make suggestions about the best way to phrase things

The issue was that it was rejected and then rejected on an appeal which, I won’t lie, properly stunned me. There are MULTIPLE pubs in the UK that are stops/gyms and for the nomination to go through appeal reviewers and be rejected was not smth I was expecting. Been doing this for years, had rejections, but this one was probably the one that killed this whole process for me. Upgrade down the drain + few weeks of appeal’s cooldown now in place.

This could be due to the fact that a pub in the US may be for those 21+, similar to a bar, so an adult location. Feel free to create a new thread about the pub that was rejected on appeal, as yes, pubs in the UK are different than pubs in the US. Niantic staff does want to know about bad appeal decisions, and this would best be discussed in a separate thread.

Hi @poly1celt & welcome !!

You can learn here how to best present your nominations. Once you get the hang of it most of your submissions will be accepted within 24 hours.

Is it possible for you to go to “contributions” once logged into wayfarer.nianticlabs.com ?

From there you can copy and paste (or screenshot) the submissions you have made.

If you post them up here then folks will be able to offer you suggestions and advice.

Most reviewers try to find ways to accept. All the reviewers are players as well and understand all the glitches, frustrations etc.

We will try and help you get new spots in your area.

You had a pub rejected? I am curious to see that.

I find Emily (the reviewing program) accepts most murals, and information boards.

Exceptions do happen when review challenges pop up and some regions are on spotlight.

Also addressed by others. I treat this as a communication game. If you check the review page, you can see the UI and what details the reviewers can see. From that, one can craft text and photos to convey the POI’s location, significance, and other details relevant to it and the criteria. I highlight @jojenreed64 's comment on the onus of the submitter to provide details and evidence. This much has been highlighted in the Criteria Clarification Collection .

I wish it were this easy. But accepting 99% of reviews mean 99% of nominations are acceptable. See the amount of people submitting things outright in the rejection criteria page.

It’s the same for a lot of us. Highlighting that Wayfarer is to be treated agnostic to any Niantic game. It’s an acquired taste for me to get that as well.

The gameboard is a reflection of the real world, this seems to be a conscious decision on their part. The lack/abundance of eligible items that can be included is a geographical variable. As much as how we can contribute (Wayfarer), it is limited to the criteria.

You are curious, because you will put, once again, blame on the legitimate nomination and try to defend niantic or just curious, because you are surrounded by pubs yourself and can’t believe, like me, how the system fails to work? In any case, here you go sunshine.

P.S. If this wasn’t stupid enough, there are another 4 pubs in the same road (yes, it is quite a long road) that are stops/gyms.

And this wasn’t rejected by emily, or whatever that AI is called, this was rejected by fellow reviewers as a generic business + temp or not unique. At least, accepted on the appeal.
