Pitkäksi sahattuun kantoon tehty moottorisahaveistos Messukylänkatu 29:n sisääntulon yhteydessä.
Sculpted using a chainsaw on a stump cut long. On the entrance to said address. Artist is unknown.
Pitkään kantoon moottorisahalla sahattu taideteos. Taiteilija tuntematon.
I don’t understand why this is being rejected. The road next to it is a walkway. It is as permanent as it gets being a single piece stump rooted deep into the ground.
This appears to be on single family private residential property, or PRP for short. Wayspots are not allowed on PRP, which is listed in the rejection criteria. Even if it’s at the edge of the property by a walking path, it’s still ineligible if it’s on PRP.
Location is a private residential property (even if historical), farmland, a K12 and under school (preschool, primary/elementary, secondary/high school), child care/daycare center, rehabilitation center, safety shelter
I’d encourage you to review the Wayspot criteria section, to get a better idea of what is and isn’t eligible:
It’s not though. The area is surrounded by PRPs, but the marked area is actually apartment buildings. The road doesn’t lead to any of the PRPs, the road only takes to the apartment buildings. Thus being public. See picture for clarification.
This then needs to be clarified in your supporting info, as there’s no Street View, and it does appear to be on PRP from satellite view. I would also show the buildings in the supporting photo and note they are apartments if you do submit again.
I think the reason it was rejected was because it had snow on it and the ML couldn’t work out what it was
“Wayfarer critieria” generally means it was rejected by the ML, not by a human
Is it possible to get a snow free image? Possibly not for a few months Or a different angle? Think about how a machine will see it, rather than a human, and will they recognise it as an owl carving?
I think its cute, and if its at an apartment block then I don’t see a reason it can’t be accepted
Yeah ML is a machine learning algorithm which pre-checks submissions to make fast decisions. It does a good job on some fast approvals but occassionally makes mistakes like here and rejects things that a human might accept. Some people call it Emily (sounds a bit like ML)
You can usually tell the ML took something if you get a really fast decision within minutes up to a couple of days, and if you get a rejection saying “Wayfarer Criteria”
When I looked at this nomination, it wasn’t the apartments (green areas) that drew my attention and might make me not approve it. It was the private home in red area just to its east. It looks like it’s on the edge of that home’s back yard.
Some may also have been reluctant to approve for lack of safe pedestrian access.
Is there any way to avoid ML from snagging the submission based on just the picture? I tried wiping it clean off of snow but it is very gray here currently, and the sculpture doesn’t stand out at all.
No idea why the tag didn’t work….
I do like a carved or owl or two
I thought the supplementary photo made the location clear that it wasn’t on PRP.
I think an explanation that it’s a shared pedestrian/vehicle access route would be needed.
The photo needs to try and get an angle where there is as little same colour twigs etc in background as they distract. You might need to get a low angle upwards.
You might need an even tighter crop on the owl.
Or wait until it’s a better day.
If you have an appeal I would try that tackling the issues raised.
It looks like a good submission to me. A wider shot of the surrounding area would help place it as it’s on satellite view only and not StreetView. If it’s a ML rejection then it can simply be a photo issue, perhaps a tighter crop to remove the background and make the owl more prominent. I’d recommend using a 1:1 ratio in any case.
