Would this qualify as a nomination?

For some time I have been thinking about subbing this but wasn’t sure if it qualified. It has some history in that it was the local power station / powerhouse for the local community in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s before the laws changed. The exterior of the building appears to have been preserved, so am wondering if it would be eligible?

Potentially - I’d give it a go.

Sounds great to me! I think these kinds of buildings have great historical interest and we can briefly tell the story in the description :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Just looking at whether this would suffice.

Title: The Power House

Description: Originally a Victorian Powerhouse built in 1896 to serve the local community of the day with power. In 1904, a change in the law (London Electric Lighting Areas Act) made this the Power house function redundant. The building has been preserved and is now converted into appartments

My only suggestion is to crop the image a bit to get rid of some driveway and reduce the car. Bit more like this?. The windows are really cool, its a nice looking building :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Sadly, I don’t have any decent photo editing software I can use any more other than MS Paint… which I loathe using. If my nomination gets rejected, I’ll go back and resub with a better crop.

I just crop stuff on my phone right after I take it. No editing software needed. The photo is clear enough, so you can use it as is. Just some (bad) reviewers reject anything containing a car, or use low quality photo for reasons that are too pedantic hence my suggestion. I really like this as a PoI, so I hope it’s accepted :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I deliberately framed this to exclude the license plate, which is usually the reason why my nominations get rejected… Let’s see if this gets accepted or rejected…

Oh absolutely no license plate at all - people just like to reject things regardless :woman_facepalming::rofl:

I’ve had bad luck with any nomination with a full car in it sadly, despite the lack of plates. It’s annoying. But equally- like here - you cant always avoid it can you?!

Don’t know if I’m too late…
I would change this a little to be more detailed about its role and therefore history in Harrow.
A late Victorian electricity generation station built in 1896. It did not last long as 8 years later the London Electric Lighting Areas Act made it redundant. The building with the large spaces designed for the generation machinery found new life as a warehouse, and was later converted for use as offices. Always a key employer in the area, earning its name of the powerhouse. Now part of the conservation area it has continued to demonstrate its flexibility and been sympathetically converted to flats.
So that’s the sort of story I would tell ……feel free to ignore, pinch a bit or whatever.

I like buildings with a story of their role

Thanks for the edit. I altered it so that it fit into the 512 character limit.

A late Victorian electricity generation station built in 1896. Its existence was short lived as it lasted around 8 years when the London Electric Lighting Areas Act made it redundant. The building with the large spaces designed for the generation machinery found new life as a warehouse, and was later converted for use as offices. Always a key employer in the area, earning its name of the powerhouse. Now part of the conservation area it has continued to demonstrate its flexibility and been converted to flats

That reads well and gives a good sense of the building.

I definitely would prefer a better-cropped photo. Far too much car park in that. If you have already submitted and it gets rejected, retry with a tighter photo.

Basic cropping should be available in your gallery app.

Got rejected overnight… have appealed it… now it’s a waiting game…

I hope the appeals team see sense! Definitely NOT a private house :joy:

I know the nomination is a 50/50, which is why I asked here initially just to get clarity. I know the photo could be better, but I am starting to think whether nominating historic buildings in the future would be worth it.

Appeal accepted. That was faster than expected.

Was never a 50/50 in my book! Well done on getting it accepted :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And it appears the location was moved away from where I initally requested. So at best it will appear as a Powerspot. I had placed it roughly where the red pin is (give or take a few metres). It’s not a big deal as it got accepted, which is the main thing.

I think there so many interesting buildings in the U.K. that have had varied lives. The buildings as a physical structure encompass so much of the history of the area. It’s nice to see that story told.
And I like that these can be discussed here for that wider perspective. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
