2 of my nominations went straight into voting

Ok, I’ll admit, I had this queued up on my phone for a few days and didn’t get to upload them until today. I uploaded them within the last hour and just checked and both went straight into voting. They haven’t been edited, and I haven’t had the chance to find some of the sources for one of my subs. I am now worried these will get me a warning of some sort. Please can I request that they are taken out of voting please?

Things are moving fast.

At least the titles look good.

You can use help chat to ask if they can possibly be withdrawn or rejected.

Problem is that I don’t want to go though the hassle of visiting these again to resub. One of the subs is roughly a 2 hour journey, so it would be hard (not impossible) to resub.

If the community rejects these, fair play, but am worried about the consequences if one of them (at least) is marked as abuse.

I can’t see why they’d be flagged as abuse. Are the descriptions a random string of letters, or just very brief?

1 word descriptions. I hate typing on my phone….passionately.

If the submissions are in an incomplete state, I highly recommend withdrawing both of them via chat. You should definitely do this if you are worried about any potential errors. The reason is simple: if an incomplete Wayspot gets approved, you will then be required to be within 80 meters of it to submit any necessary edits or corrections. Dealing with the withdrawal now is much easier than fixing a flawed Wayspot later.
Based only on my personal experience, my submissions seem to have a 24-hour grace period before they enter voting. The key issue is that this 24-hour countdown appears to begin the moment the nomination is drafted within the app, not when it is actually submitted to the server. This is beneficial because it doesn’t delay the review process, but it also means that if a nominator waits more than 24 hours after creating the draft to submit it, they lose that grace period entirely. Shouldn’t this be considered an issue that needs a fix?

One word, as long as its appropriate, shouldn’t be considered abusive. I would be tempted to see what happens. Especially if they are problematic to resubmit

If for example it simply says information board, I wouldn’t see that as a reason to reject. Mistakes happen. I struggle with the Pokémon Go submission small screen, British weather, dodgy signal strength and dyslexic brain make for a not great combination.

I did recently review a submission with a string of random letters.

I can imagine what happened and I simply selected inaccurate description and wrote my reasoning, there was no sign of anything malicious.

We are often told on these forums that if a title or description is inadequate, but the POI itself is valid and eligible, we should not reject for the title and description, since someone (unspecified) can always come along later and submit corrections (*)

On this basis, I don’t think the OP has the responsibility to correct the descriptions if they get approved.

(*) I happen not to agree with this, but that isn’t relevant to this issue.

I usually see just one word in the nominations I review, “hold”. I simply reject then for inaccurate description. I absolutely agree that if there is malicious content, it should just be rejected normally.

I do wonder sometimes how much trouble it is to write 1 relevant word for the nomination.

My writing on a phone is abysmal. I like to write good descriptions and supporting, so minimal text doesn’t work for me. If I find something on the road, more than 10km from home, I’m a little stuck.

I currently have a whole batch of nominations pending for me to get closer with somewhere with wifi where I am willing to spend an hour uploading instead of walking and exploring.

I have had a one-word (ArtistName) description similarly go into voting due to the same. It remains eligible and was approved, but I completely sympathize. It also can’t be edited easily because it’s not Pokémon GO eligible :upside_down_face:

I have never heard of community “In Voting” being reverted to “In Queue” though so I’m not sure there’s even a technical possibility for that. Your better bet may be to ask for a rejection as the others suggest above.

I hate writing field submissions, so I’ll always “upload later” and then put them on hold immediately TBH, this sounds a bit like a bug. Also many people have given the advice on the forum to do just that.

Staff can change the status I think.

I think your post here and your continued involvement and reputation within the Wayforum speaks more to your credibility than this (presumed) one-off situation. On the chance you get an abuse flag, I would think both of those should factor in any decision.

Only staff can help you, here. We’ve been told Help Chat can help, or tagging a moderator who may directly help you.

I do wonder if staff can’t be willing to help out in these situations and offer a direct line to appeal and correct text discrepancies, as a show of good faith.

I think this has two major problems.

One is the precedent this would set - what is the line between nominations where this is allowed and the ones where it isn’t?

The other is that once nominations go into voting, they are fixed so that all reviewers see the same thing. If you were able to edit it, earlier reviewers who rejected it for the text would be penalised if it was accepted after the edit was made. If you could withdraw it, edit and resubmit, how do you handle the agreements for reviewers? You certainly can’t give all existing reviewers +1 for agreements because that is unfair on everyone else.

This is already a problem. Nominations are allowed to enter voting all the time and a very small cross-section of those are pulled by Niantic, flagged for abuse review, and sometimes even ML. Regardless of approval or rejection, they don’t result in agreements for the community reviews.

I said appeal, not correct the text in voting. My suggestion is to let it ride it’s course and then be willing to work with P1dg3ySlayer on the appeal.

Update: Aaron has made contact with me privately. Can’t be withdrawn, which I accept.

Good news: The one I was worried about has been accepted. The other one is still in voting.

Found 5 new nominations, which are on hold, until I edit them. Need to get tomorrow’s interview out of the way.

And as I was posting my last message, the 2nd one has been approved.

In hindsight, I should have submitted them on the day and put them on hold. I was either unware or forgotten that nominations that were on hold for over 24 hours would go straight into voting.

I guess this is one reason why I would like to see nominations go into hold rather than in queue by default….. but overall, I’m glad. I’ll try and fix them both if I can.

Edit: Just realised, one of the subs won’t be editible as it’s in the same cell as another stop.
