Any way to get this accepted or not?

Hi there, is anyone able to help me understand if this is worth an appeal, nominating again, or simply accept it’s not worthy of a nomination?

Rejected reason seems to be “Lacks uniqueness or historical and cultural meaning”
Does that mean people rejected it simply because it’s a coffee shop/stand?
Wouldn’t the location on the seafront meet the criteria for all 3

I could understand if this were a Starbucks, or Costa, etc… but a small, locally run coffee stand I though would be OK.
It’s not like the promenade is full of these places, there aren’t exactly many locations along the seafront that you can stop off at and rest like this.
Location is here for anyone who wants to check it out on Google maps

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

If you were going to pursue this, you might need to say more about what makes this a unique independent business in the description and supplementary information. What do they do that others don’t? Do they have a website you could link to in the supporting information? I’ve managed to get a riverside cafe, a dog-friendly shake shop selling craft items with a function room and a juice bar accepted, by showing they were independent and had unique selling points that made them stand out from other food / drink outlets.

Alternatively, you might have more success centering the nominated wayspot on the seating area, which could be eligible due to being an anchor at a scenic viewpoint: Seating Benches

I’'ve never had cause to nominate seating / picnic areas for that reason though, so see what others think.

Finally, typo in the supporting information “stop off” not “stop of”.

Coffee shop by default almost likely fall into generic business. U need to put extra effort in order to explain why its not generic business. Liverlouike15 bring out interesting idea. The view from the bench might allow it to fall into another category. I believe this is a good idea.

Some could see this as a small chain, as they have 5 locations that all seem to be within the Portsmouth area, and thus as a generic business.

If you do nominate this shop again, try and add more info about what makes this location unique from the others. Maybe they serve some drinks and/or food that the other shops don’t. I also agree with taking a photo that is better centered on the shop, and since it does close at 17:00 (5pm), the sun should still be up to get a good shot that’s lit well.

I do see a permanent picnic area across from the shop and 50.78266583893471, -0.6680183147480308, and that doesn’t have a Wayspot yet, and may be a great place to be social with others. If you haven’t nominated that, you may want to look into it, as picnic areas can be eligible.

A waterfront cafe with a seating area and a scenic lookout is both a great place to explore and a great place to socialize. Your nomination highlights that well and shows it clearly in the supporting photo, so there’s not much that can be improved here.

You could try resubmitting with a slightly different focus and hope to get reviewers who will read the information and recognize the waterfront cafe as a great spot - but that’s a gamble and waste of time. Personally, I would use the appeal option.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll look more into the seating area as a possible nomination then.
As for the typo, it should also read “outdoor seating” and not “putdoor seating”, it was hard writing it out on my phone in the direct sunlight lol.

I’m assuming when you say “permanent picnic area” you mean the seating in the supporting image. It’s the seating area for the Coffee Cup place, would that still count as a picnic area?

Thanks for that, I might try the appeal option then, as I’m not sure if I could add anything else to the nomination as it it. Could always shift focus to the seating area, as others have mentioned, if the appeal fails.

Yes, that’s the place, and picnic areas can make for great places to be social, hence it may be eligible. And I would imagine that people still use it even after the shop is closed, either before they open or after they close. Here’s the clarification on picnic areas.

There’s nothing that says it has to be connected to the shop per se, so if the shop proves to be a tough sell, the picnic area may be an easier nomination to get approved.

Agree, I would focus on this, what looks to me, great location rather than the rather generic looking shop. In a city near to me there is a McD with a stunning location. Normally that would be instant reject as generic business. The location itself though - holy smoke, i would nominate that, if i ever go there. In fact i just asked someone to go and check, if that location has a wayspot in our game. Long story short, you can see how warm and fuzzy this nomination in Portsmouth made me. Go for it. This is a locatik i would love to visit, if i ever go there.
