As it has been around for 5+ years, I’d like to know if there is there any information on why it was removed.
While the park is currently undergoing some construction, rerouting the bike path and bike parking, pedestrian access has been maintained throughout along the edge of the park, and the bus stop on one side hasn’t even been moved. Another gym that is heavily impacted by the park construction also remains.
Let me be clear that I am not staff. If a Wayspot was removed, there will have been evidence presented to Niantic that it should be removed. @salixsorbus has posted an image of the portal connected to the Wayspot which still exists in Ingress. Since Ingress is no longer part of Wayfarer, the portal was not affected by the removal of the Wayspot. What you need to do for your appeal is prove that this location still exists.
I want to let you know that, even if the Wayspot is restored, it won’t automatically come back as a gym.
It looks like Rev. Thomas J. Williams Park South Gate is a gym now. Three gyms in an L14 is the most you can expect.
Also Mallet Square has been promoted to a Pokestop in the same L17 S2 cell as the removed gym coordinates, so this Wayspot wouldn’t even be eligible to be a pokestop if restored.
The sign still exists and should be back in the same place once the irrigation/re-paving work in the park is complete: as of yesterday, the sign (and the bike parking) was a few feet away against the temporary construction barrier. I could dig up the city construction plans if you want; the park is being improved, not re-named or removed.
Is there a way to vote or provide feedback on which spots should be a gym? Spartichino Park is a small but mighty park at the intersection of the main commercial street and the longest, most-used pedestrian/bike trail in the city, as well as a bus stop for a designated high-frequency line. Rev. Thomas J. Williams Park gets substantially less foot traffic in all seasons.
Here is a previous answer from staff addressing the game status issue:
Again, I am not staff, and only mentioned this to hopefully ease the potential disappointment if you expected it to return to its previous game status, but it doesn’t.
