My nomination “Dongyin Lighthouse Mural” was rejected and marked as abuse due to misplacement. However, the mural is located at a public wall, and the incorrect Plus Code was likely caused by Google Maps offset in Dongyin, a remote island.
Original Plus Code: 7QR29F8P+VR
Actual location: 9F8P+VRG (Zhongliu Village)
I’d like to know how to avoid such map offset issues, and whether re-submitting with new evidence would be valid.
The Google Maps address is not what reviewers use when determining if something is in the right location or not. It’s often just given as an approximation of where the nomination is, and mostly reviewers will go off what they can see from available satellite and street view, plus whatever landmarks are visible in your supporting image.
Looking at the available photospheres, it appears as though the nomination should be at 26.367102,120.486798 (which can be seen most clearly from this photosphere: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Bvm5cyXH9Hk7NasU7?g_st=ac ).
Comparing this to the screenshots you’ve sent, it appears as though the location that you attempted to put the pin at is approximately around 26.367268,120.486935 (I can’t be certain of the exact coordinates you submitted, though you can find these on the email you received when you submitted the nomination), which is around 20 metres away from the coordinates that I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
This discrepancy would be enough to get your nomination rejected for abuse with regards to incorrect positioning of the wayspot.
I understand now how the reviewers may have interpreted the placement and how the discrepancy could have caused the rejection.
However, I’ve now received a formal abuse strike on my account because of this, and honestly, it’s been really discouraging. I never intended to misplace anything — it was just a map offset issue, and now it feels like I’m being punished for something that wasn’t malicious.
This experience has left me feeling disheartened and powerless when it comes to submitting new nominations. I really enjoy contributing to the map and improving the community’s experience, but this has shaken my motivation.
I appreciate any advice or support from the community moving forward.
It could have been an educational email or a formal warning on the ladder.
Can you provide a screen shot of the email sent please.
Was there 1 email or 3?
There were three emails, and the official has responded to my appeal. The content of the appeal is as follows. I feel really sad. I applied for the supply station very seriously, but because of the system positioning problem, I was given this punishment. Although it is just a warning, it makes me afraid to apply. Applications for supply stations are often rejected for inexplicable reasons, even though they are clearly approved projects.
Hello Explorer,
We have completed a thorough review of your account and have concluded that your account has violated Wayfarer criteria. This includes, but is not limited to:
Trying to influence reviewers to vote in a specific way
Bullying and/or harassing others through contributions (nominations, edits, etc)
Sharing personal identifiable information
Patterns of incorrect reviewing and/or participating in voting rings
Nomination Investigated:
Title: 東引120週年慶壁畫
Context: The aforementioned wayspot nomination did not meet our criteria as it was submitted at the incorrect location away from the object it represents.
I don’t think these applications will violate any project. These bridges have clear names, and they have not been applied. Some projects say that there are insulting words, which makes me unable to understand.
Its 1st strike from abuse ladder system.
As long you dont get more strike, you will be fine after a year. Anyway 1st strike doesnt restrict anything. Its meant to give warning for a day. 2nd strike will suspend you from the game and wayfarer for 30 days(depend on severity it might go for higher strike). You can appeal and hopefully staff will remove the strike if its not to severe
