Hi,
I recently sent in a contribution because I noticed a pokestop was wrong. The Photo was from 12 years ago apparently and back then the area used to be a fountain. It’s now a sculpture so I sent them a new updated photo and information that the fountain was no longer there. They rejected my suggestion TWICE due to it “not being the object connected to the wayspot” . How do I convince them that the Pokestop is wrong and needs updating? I’m new to this and don’t know if I’m doing it wrong.
Welcome to the forum! I’m afraid that what you are experiencing is very much normal.
The “there is a Pokéstop here and it needs to change to whatever the current object is” philosophy doesn’t work in Wayfarer. The expected course of action is to report the old object for removal and resubmit the new one. I would suggest trying that, since as the staff member told you, you are taking a risk in attempting to repurpose it for something else.
The reason for this is that if objects attached to wayspots in Wayfarer are replaced by different objects over time, they need a new round of review to check the eligibility of the new object, and it is up to the submitter to make a case for this in the new nomination.
Hope this helps going forward.

Good for you for trying to correct the map, but trying to change the Wayspot from the thing that was approved is considered abuse. You would have to report the fountain Wayspot for removal and submit the statue as a new Wayspot.
I understand that removing a longstanding Pokemon Go location is a huge deal for the game mechanic.
