Are cafeterias not valid POIs or am I crazy?

In my neighbourhood we have 1 cafetería which is +30 years old and a tapas bar, which is also well known by locals.

Submission 1 (bar)

Address: Google Maps
Description:
Bar de barrio de comida tradicional española. Tapas y desayunos de calidad.
Support text:

Submission 2 (cafeteria)

Description:
Sirviendo cafés y desayunos desde tiempos inmemoriales.
Address: Google Maps
Support text:
Cafetería de culto. Siempre tienen gente.

I dont know what to do. There arent many more valid points in my zone. Still no nearby POIs, can’t enjoy playing ngl.

Btw, in Wayfarer eligibility criteria section you can see “favorite cafeterias” and even restaurants. Maybe It’s not the BEST cafetería with a exclusive design logo, but is the neighbourhood’s cafeteria.

Businesses
There are many stores, restaurants, and businesses that may seem generic or not notable at first glance, but can be eligible with .

Local restaurants and cafes in all areas often have interesting backstories, exceptional menus, or are highly rated places that someone might recommend to an out-of-town visitor.

From what I can gather from your recommendation, I cannot confirm the characteristics of the restaurant or the reasons for its popularity from the explanation and supplementary information provided. The above criteria clarification collection also requires “the proper supporting information.” There is always a reason why popular restaurants have been in business for many years. I think it would be better to research it thoroughly and resubmit it. That way, you yourself will also fall in love with that restaurant or café.

It actually says “cafe,” not “cafeteria,” but it may translate to that for you.

When it comes to local places to eat, whether a restaurant or a cafe, it’s on the burden of the submitter to prove that it’s local, that it’s popular, that it’s know for certain dishes/drinks, etc. You did a good job of this with El Puntal, even providing a link to a review website, noting that it has an outdoor terrace. It’s possible that being Bar is in the name that this could have caused some to think it’s a place that is age-restricted, although your screenshot doesn’t show a rejection reason (you may have to refresh the page or logout then log back in to see it). This may help better understand the rejection.

As for the cafeteria, just saying that you don’t know how long it’s been around but that your grandparents even went there doesn’t prove that it meets criteria. If you can find any info about how long it’s been open, that would be helpful, as saying that it’s been open since the beginning of time could be seen as inaccurate, since it hasn’t. La Yuca doesn’t seem to have a website, so one thing that you may need to do is ask the staff or owners about how long it’s been open if you still want to include that.

Otherwise, if you do not wish to ask how long La Yuca has been open, just try to focus on it being a local coffee shop that also serves breakfast, and maybe focus on some of the food/drink that they are known for.

Also see that there is no rejection reason listed for La Yuca, so knowing it will also be helpful to give any further help.

You mention a lot of things that don’t have anything to do with Wayspot eligibility criteria. Something could easily be 50 years old and not qualify as a great place to socialize, explore, or exercise. Nearby businesses are irrelevant. Just having hours, and a menu, doesn’t make a restaurant qualify. Niantic isn’t a Yelp competitor, or trying to create a catalog of everything that exists.

Concentrate on how it meets criteria. Make it easy for reviewers to see: socialize, explore, or exercise. If the first sentence is filled with stuff that doesn’t matter toward criteria, they may not read the rest of it so carefully.

Best bets: find a statue, mural, or fountain… or game area… or events (besides food specials) - especially if they’re on their web site. Explain if it’s the only Peruvian (or whatever style it is) restaurant in the county, or has a room you can reserve for meetings.

A great Google rating is good… A more exclusive list (like “best of”) would be better, if you can find it.

You may get it through without any of those things. But if it has something along any of these lines, include it.

Also, remember that your reviewers can be anywhere. For example, Niantic reviewers could be contractors, in another country. Perhaps in a culture that doesn’t have bars, and so they understand them to be adults only.

@Miguering I am not a expert but I would suggest summarizing the support description and making it a little smaller and you can try to appeal it if you think it should have been accepted.

You can use this as a example to check what should be included in supplemental info.

You should also read the post made by @MargariteDVille

That’s not really the best supporting info, as these are different types of POIs. Religious places tend to get accepted more easily than restaurants and cafes, so the info provided for those will usually need to be more detailed. Here’s and example of a cafe that I nominated and had approved by my community:

I noted that it’s family friendly, what some of their featured dishes are, that they support local charitiies with fundraisers, and even noted that they have a dog-friendly patio open during the warmer months.

You may want to review the Generic/Non-Generic Businesses criteria clarification, as it does cover restaurants and cafes, and it does note that enough evidence needs to be provided. With any nomination, the burden of proof is on the submitter; even this religious temple nomination to mee is lacking info, like what type of religion may be practiced here. Being this is Jammu, it could be Hindu, Muslim, or another, since Jammu and Kashmir has a few different religions that are practiced.

But the thing is that the name says Temple, is a Hindu GOD. I can’t tell the name of the GOD because ninantic doesn’t allow it to be posted for some reason but you can read the name of the nomination if you want.

What Dtrain means is that a temple is a different type of nomination from a cafe. A temple is relatively easy and doesnt need much to supporting, while a cafe probably needs a more detailed supporting.

I agree to that.
