Art Appeal Mistakenly Rejected

Hey, all:

Recently, I had an appeal rejected for an incorrect reason. The nomination is a painting of a barber’s pole at a barbershop. The rejection stated it was rejected because it was a regular barber’s pole. However, the nomination is actually a piece of realism art to mirror a barber’s pole due to the location where it was painted. Is there any possible way for this rejection to be reversed due to this error?

Thank you.

Welcome to the new forum @tablogeimrats (must resist the urge to use other names that I know you by haha)

Just thought I’d post street view that shows this:

It’s a bit easier to tell from that view that it is actually a painting and not a real barber pole - it is notably very flat looking. I do agree with you that up close, they’ve done a pretty good job of making it look like it has depth.

Whats the difference whether its painted or 3D, its still just represents a barber poll, a basic symbol thats present in just about every barber shop (at least in Southern California).

This is a interesting topic. I am curious how it will go and if the appeal will be reconsidered.

Although, I must say I rhought this was a barbersign at first as well😅

I have seen some very cool proper murals that depict the barber pole in a artistic way, but this example is just a basic rendition used to advertise the business.

I don’t think this is a mistake by the appeals team. This seems to fall into the “business signage” clarification as just representing the business without “unique artistic merit” to me:

fwiw, I agree that the copy/paste reason of it being a mass produced item is wrong, but I do think the decision was correct.

More power to you all if you think this doesn’t count as acceptable artwork. I do find it sad, though. Not everyone could paint this well. Not to mention, it doesn’t come from some generic stencil that can be found at a chain art supply store like Michaels. I don’t know many people who could paint something like this and make it look this realistic. I’d appreciate insight from someone at Niantic. Thank you.

Its not about if people could paint that nice or not. Its that the painting was painted as a simple logo type art for the business rather than something meant to wow people and fulfill the exploration criteria that some art pieces can meet.
