Noticed a new Waypoint the past few weeks near where I work. I hadn’t submitted one like this as I wasn’t sure where these stood. I’ve noticed that they often tend to get added if there is Park or Forest in the name. A good submission?
It’s categorized as Art, Sign, and Forest.
It’s not a forest.

Where are you seeing the categories? I haven’t seen that.
The category being wrong doesn’t mean the person who submitted was deceptive. It is my understanding that the system will suggest categories, too.
I think this meets no criteria but also meets no removal criteria. Please don’t submit them, but if you do, the ML model will probably accept it.
(Everything around me was submitted through Ingress, so was not submitted with a category.)
It will have the category of Forest due to having Forest in the name of the Wayspot.
Often I will submit trailmarkers and name them from the nearby street. I have had others tell me that they get auto-assigned (I submit via Ingress mostly so don’t choose a category) of tree which I guess the system pulls from street.
Important to remember that the categories don’t equal eligibility though.
That is interesting. I was trying to figure out where you are seeing the categories on the Pokestop (would still like to know) and just discovered that Ingress and Pokemon Go have different things you can contribute. I always use Ingress since the range is normally further.
I had actually never realised that “add location category” was a thing on the edit page
I don’t think you can within the games. It would have to be on something like Wayfarer app or Geospatial Browser on Lightship which are just meant for developers. (aware you know cyndie, just adding context for anyone scrolling through)
No I did not know how this person was seeing the categories - ty!
I meant more the Wayfarer app not being for general use

Yeah, you can submit Category updates on Pokémon Go and Ingress.
Edit: Oops. It’s only in Pokémon Go.
Not in ingress - I just posted the contributions page.
That’s right! I remember now that for Ingress submissions they never ask for that info.

SO thankful not to have to mess with it in Ingress! Once I’ve found the great thing, taken pictures, gotten them right, created text, edited to make the text better, and gone thru the process - I wanna be DONE, not hit with something extra to decide.
