Clarifications on Pokémon Go Power Spots [Discussion]

I will agree with you on Ingress being affected by the 4sq imports (but not Power Spots as they don’t show on Ingress) as having those added caused issues that Agents didn’t want the garbage on the map.

But then it’s caused issues now with them being removed from the game as Agents may nominate eligible things that were once 4sq Portals, only to get them rejected as Duplicates because they are still in the database.

But that’s one for the Ingress team to solve.

Believe me when i say that hardly any part of what you wrote is how it actually works behind the scenes or with ambassadors.

Seems a little unfair and disrespectful to go after ambos, as they are here to help. Plus, they have been posting their favorite nominations from 2024 here, and many are really great.

Why is the Ingress team responsible for addressing the issue of data that the Wayfarer team imported without permission?
That is an issue that should be addressed by the Wayfarer team, who continues to leave low-quality, inaccurate location rubble derived from Foursquare in their database.

If the Wayfarer team and ambassadors think that PGO needs the rubble Wayspot data that Ingress rejected, they can solve this by removing the Foursquare data from the Wayfarer database and re-importing it into the PGO database.
And the PGO trainer will present you with a car dealership picked up from a vacant lot decorated with gray photos.
You are free to consider this a noble gift or a piece of trash sent to you.

Do you have anything useful to add to the conversation beyond baseless accusations and negativity?

I advise you to backtrack who is addressing which problem (there can be mutliple) and the vector of this issue.

I agree that this is a messed up situation. Also a reminder that messengers may or may not have a choice regarding the decisions of the addressed subject.

Hello

I think perhaps you could consider taking your own advice.

It is complex situation and taking a simplistic negative view is your choice, but please refrain from presenting it as definitive.

As far as I know no Ambassador has said this. Again, consider your own perspective.

My perspective on Power Spots was pretty clear in my previous comment but I don’t believe that database was ever offered to Ingress or other teams, it seems it was only for Pokémon GO.

As for the Foursquare ones, maybe raise a separate topic on it so that it doesn’t get lost here and can be discussed fully? I know they were discussed on the Ingress forums previously when they first went live in Ingress.

If you’re looking for this Ambassador’s view on the Foursquare imports, I think it was a good idea from someone to increase the amount of POI in low volume areas. However, it should have been someone’s project for 3-6 months to shift through the data and clean it up before the import(s) as well as giving a heads up on how to handle them if you see them in game (such as update/report/add an image). The data as it was imported was awful and further confused Wayfarers around eligibility.

This powerspot that had an accepted removal report on Dec 25 is getting ready to cycle back in again:

You can even tell it is SFPRP in game.

What good does an accepted report do if they keep cycling back in?

Now this makes me wonder if it was removed, or the Power Spot database hasn’t been synced properly, etc.

oh i linked to my original comment, not this one where i showed that the ! is no longer there on the nomination map check:

I assume we are waiting for a sync, but meanwhile it still exists on SFPRP. Powerspots are not a big concern for the Wayfarer team, I guess.

Here’s a thought I had whilst out on a walk.

I saw a PokéStop for, let’s call it “The Elephant Cafe”. All good, nominated it years ago and it’s a great local coffee place.

However, now, next to it is a Power Spot called “Elephant Cafe”. It’s for the exact same thing

Do I use this option, even though the other duplicate isn’t a Power Spot?

What are others thoughts?

I’ll give it a go and see anyways. I didn’t do it on this walk because it wasn’t active this time but should come up in the next rotation.

I also wish there was a way to report the many many duplicates of Power Spots you see on the nomination map.

i actually have two of these near me for “DAVIS DRIVE PARK” and i hadn’t even thought about reporting one as duplicate :woman_facepalming:

Oh never mind. I thought I hadn’t reported it on my walk.

The email at 10am says otherwise. So I’ll wait and see what happens with it.

This is a known issue. We have an issue with sync wherein PowerSpots removed from the database are not getting removed from the gameboard. We have already flagged it to the team. Please be patient while we work on a fix.

It doesn’t. We apologize for the inconvenience.

:sob:

Sorry your team is having to fix this mess. If the Pokemon Go team had just used approved Wayspots in the first place, we would not have this issue.

Appreciate the update.

I imagine the “inbox” for reported Power Spots must be huge, so it’ll be interesting to see how the map changes when these removals sync.

Unfortunately there’s not a good track record with the imports to games.

  • Foursquare
  • Courts of the World
  • Power Spots

Have any of them been any good?
