To finish this off, the Power Spot with the photo has now been removed.
What method?
The Powerspot I reported through the “Request modification of a Pokémon Gym” form (as we were told to use) was approved over 2 months ago but is still in game.
In game.
I would re-report if you used other methods previously. It feels like the early reports went in a giant “in pile” to someone on the Pokémon GO team who never dealt with them. Whereas now, they seem to get resolved by the Wayfarer folks who do help chat etc.
Ok. I’ll find a different one and try I’ve gotten accustomed to having one I can interact with on my daily walks (/s)
I did get the torn down Burger King that had a Power Spot removed once they changed the removal report to how we report Wayspots. Took a photo of the now empty lot, provided a link to it, and it doesn’t show up anymore.
Went back to the location and I no longer can report it in game. Continously gives me an error now and tells me to try again later even after restarting and refreshing game data so oh well. If its going to be this hard to make these poor powerspot imports safe and accurate I dont think I’ll bother to worry about them much. Guess I’ll just wait and see how the handling of these powerspots evolve I’ll try help chat tomorrow and see how that goes. Already have to reach out about a wayspot that isnt reportable due to its unsafe access anyways so can just do the powerspot at the same time.
I was able to re-report this SFPRP powerspot,
and this report was accepted.
The powerspot did rotate out, but has popped up again opening tomorrow. What are accepted reports supposed to do?
Does it still show on the map if you go to nominate something nearby?
not that close but will check it out - good idea
Have to say nearly every Powerspot around me is on private land/property. It varies if in city/town centres v suburbs… So I am talking suburbs here
How come? Well many a small business is owned by someone who has registered that business from home. This practice is very common here. Having your own “business” is the number one way for joe public to rort normal taxpayers out of their hard earned cash (they convince themselves they are Robin Hoods fighting a greater good so they don’t feel guilty that they actually just robbing everyone) . Sorry I digress. Consequently you are guaranteed to have a small business within a 100m (yards) of your place of residence.
Why is that important? It seems in Australia they imported a business directory of these small businesses to make these portals?
Would that be right?
Yes, I believe that is what Niantic was saying here:
That’s not the job the Wayfarer team should be doing.
Unfortunately, they don’t know their place, and they do what each game team should be thinking and doing.
At their own discretion.
They are truly kings.
They are in a position to decide the future of their respective game teams.
That’s very impressive. I marvel at it.
That is exactly how the Wayfarer team is destroying the future of Niantic.
I applaud them for considering it an accomplishment and pride of their own work to be importing non-POI objects 2km away on an inaccurate map in order to increase density where there are no POIs.
You have made some very big claims here.
It sounds like wild speculation since a lot of it seems to revolve around the internal workings of Niantic and how the teams relate to each other.
Have you some solid evidence please?
Yeah, most of the Power Spots on PRP are for people that run their businesses out of the homes here in the US, too, but it’s not just suburban; it’s rural and urban as well. These are most likely the 3rd party imports, since PRP POIs aren’t allowed by Wayfarer.
However, most in the US are actual small businesses in the area that serve a need, but the business owner may not have the money to rent/own a store front. They may also be the only employee or run it with family, and their service may also be one that it easy to run out of their homes.
I grew up in a rural town, and one of the home businesses was a sewing machine seller and repair shop. They operated for decades, as we had many who used sewing machines in my hometown, and still do. There wasn’t another seller or repair shop in town, so you’d have to drive about a hour away just to find another one. Since the internet came about and sewing machines have become lighter and more portable, the business eventually closed once the couple that ran it reached retirement age.
In the city I live in currently, there is a computer repair business that had a Power Spot not far from where I live, and it was on single family PRP. A computer repair business doesn’t necessarily need a store front, as if the home owner has an extra room in their home they can set that up as their repair space.
Really, as Wayfarers, we should be doing our best to report these Power Spots for removal, and if possible, provide a link to a photo or splat that proves the location is PRP.
sadly that means I have to interact with them (( EDIT added this bit)) the portals not people. I do everything possible to avoid Not my thing. I get most of your examples. Here not done for that reason.
Of course some people do the right thing.
Ma hahahahah
And reporting powerportals . Right I double tap on the ? in the bottom left hand corner… OK. Thanks DTrain.
You don’t have to interact with the home/business owners whatsoever. I’ve had a few LFLs on PRP removed as Wayspots, and all I did was take a photo showing it was on PRP, uploaded to a 3rd party image app, and provided the link in the comments box.
Power Spots have the same removal form as Wsyspot for about a month now, and it’s been posted about here, if you look at previous posts in this thread. Power Spots are also only used in PoGo; unused Wayspots may be Power Spots in PoGo and portals in Ingress, but not all Power Spots are unused Wayspots.
My bad. I have edited to make clear. Interact with the portals not the people. Thanks for pointing out.
And thanks for info on the Power Spots. Appreciated
It amazes me that there are Wayfarer ambassadors who don’t realize that each time they pile rubble on the map, they are losing the appeal of their respective games.
Of course, Ingress is the most negatively affected.
No one wants to see the rubble.
And PGO, which is generally the least affected by rubble, is also affected. Would you be happy to receive the gift of debris from your friends? If you are, you are missing the point of Wayfarer.
And understand that no matter how high the individual value, a stinking Pokémon obtained from Smoky Mountain has no intrinsic value.
Being proud of where you got this Pokémon is the most precious thing to a PGO.
No one is proud of picking up a Pokémon from the rubble.
Of course, if a Pikmin picked up a postcard from the rubble, most people would tear it up.
Thus, rubble wayspot has a negative impact on all games.
And Dambocat, who was once fired by Niantic, said that Wayfarer is like a food pantry: you can’t get enough of it.
But when all the Wayfarer team supplies to the game team is rotten foodstuffs, it’s no wonder the games lose their appeal.
That is the structure that results in the Wayfarer teams dominating their respective game teams.
If you are a Wayfarer ambassador, please maintain a more holistic perspective.
I don’t feel that the Wayfarer team had a say in it.
We know that John Hanke said he envisions Pokémon GO as a “forever game” (Niantic Organizational Update – Niantic Labs) so that game will be bringing in the money.
It’s not Wayfarer’s fault that the team who are making money decided to take a big on the game board with Power Spots and then leave it for the Wayfarer team and Wayfarers to tidy it up.
Is that a more holistic perspective?
