I am going to make an impossible ask statement. What if the map had some AI integration built in where on a click of a button, we could see potential Wayspot nominations that could be considered? I know it’s a terrible idea, but if we need to go out and explore, just imagine some AI having some knowledge built in that could tell us of some possible nominations that could be considered…
Pikmin bloomers will play a different role: when someone brings up an old topic - can wayspots be accepted in places safely reachable from 80 meters? - they’ll be the strawman summoned to argue that we need to safely stand right on top of it and even walk around the flower to plant petals.
I have been using Intel to assist with POI nominations for many years from the days of the OPR to the current Niantic Wayfarer. It’s disheartening to hear about the separation between Ingress and Pokémon GO.
If there is a new map platform being developed for Wayfinders, I would love to see a few essential features implemented — just enough to allow users to submit nominations, track their status, and view basic Wayspot information (similar to the Niantic Wayfarer app). The ability to view Google Street View images for nominations would also be greatly appreciated.
It would be ideal if nominations could be submitted directly from the new Wayfarer map — similar to the Lightship platform. I’ve tested that feature twice and found it promising, though it may benefit from eligibility requirements, such as having a Wayfarer rating in Good standing.
Additionally, I hope to see more advanced features in the future, such as the ability to view a personal nomination history map (similar to the Nomination Map plug-in), or statistics summarizing a Wayfinder’s contributions — like approved nominations, participation in events such as Wayfarer Challenges, and badges (similar to the Nomination Stats plug-in).
I strongly encourage reducing reliance on third-party plug-ins and instead building these capabilities natively into the official platform. Doing so would greatly benefit all Wayfinders.
Thank you, and I sincerely hope we will be able to use a new and improved Wayfarer map in the near future.
