I’ve had mixed results with community notice boards recently. I’m not near this one, nominated while out of town, so I can’t resubmit. It’s about a 2 hours drive away from my location. Would have to be an appeal on this one.
Question: If I did decide to appeal, what suggestions would you have for this nomination?
Yeah, I would have a hard time accepting a notice board inside of a chain restaurant. My Panera also has one, but I have never thought of nominating it, as pretty much all Paneras I’ve been to have them.
Really? Our local Panera has a board that was submitted by somebody. If I recall correctly, it took staff reviewing on appeal, but I’d personally have no issue having accepted it. Playgrounds at chain stores are of course not ineligible because of their location.
If I remember, some have said the chain restaurant playgrounds may be eligible, as they encourage exercise and socialization, and not many of them exist these days. I think there are only 2 McD’s in my area that still have play places, and none of the BKs have them anymore.
The Panera notice boards I would have a harder time accepting due to all Paneras having them.
I would have no problem accepting this with that “Community Bulletin Board” heading. Panera Bread puts special emphasis on community: https://www.panerabread.com/en-us/food-values/community.html Maybe you can dig up some extra information on a community effort at this particular one? But I would try an appeal even if I couldn’t.
For generic signage and corporate art, I can see that rationale. But the notices typically being posted on these boards are community driven and local specific. To me, that removes the “generic” aspect of the.
I try to look at each nomination individually and make sure it fits the criteria. Interestingly enough, all of my community notice board accepted nominations have come on appeal. Not the community.
And that’s also one of the reasons I think about when submitting: might I have to appeal? Since we only get 2 appeals every 15 days, if I feel that I may have to appeal for it to get accepted, I’ll pass on submitting, and find something better.
I’m having difficulty understanding why it would matter being in a chain. The signage isn’t what’s eligible - the content and use makes it eligible.
I don’t want to get into what isn’t the intent of the thread, though.
I’ve seen “meets criteria” work, but if OP makes sure to let the appeal text do the heavy lifting then they have the option to revisit it if appeals staff rejects it.
Definitely make note of community events posted on the board.
I have “Skipped” many in Supermarkets just for the fact that I can not confirm that they are at the stated gps co-ords or even at that store.
I would not reject a “Public Noticeboard” due to being located at a Chain Store. I have voted Accept where the supplemental has shown the board through the front doors etc confirming it’s location.
I always have to appeal noticeboards, but the appeals team do seem to like them and I have no problems getting them accepted. I have submitted some at my gym, and at local supermarkets too. So yes I would say appeal it, and I try to mention a couple of the most interesting groups featured on the noticeboard, maybe if theres a yoga class or a cooking group that sounded interesting I mention it in my statement
If every Panera has a community noticeboard with local events and information, then every Panera has a wayspot waiting to be added. It being a boring generic chain restaurant doesn’t stop the noticeboard being full of local community information.
I’ve been adding noticeboards inside supermarkets (proving location is hard as I haven’t been taking photospheres, bad enough taking photos) and think they make better locations for noticeboards than the ones stuck in random places on the street because lots of people see them.
These ones in Panera feel the same - a good number of people will see them, in a safe comfortable environment, improving the chances of engagement.
The last community notice board I submitted was at a Jimmy John’s, and I found success with the nomination by being open that the nomination was not for the restaurant but for the board and its contents:
It’s been my recent experience that sometimes, talking directly to the reviewer and going “hey, I know your kneejerk reaction is to flush this for X reason, but consider Y and Z here” is a really useful thing. I know there can be a tendency to get into a review flow and just…treat everything the same. But supporting info is a tool for direct communication with reviewers and I love it.
