How?
So don’t do it? I’m not saying that you remove the current way to review, I’m saying add the ability to review nominations in person.
I think the main problem with rural areas is that there are too few players, right? So if reviewing is now limited to people who happen to pass by a place, that seems like it would take years (or never) to gather enough votes to get something approved.
Right now, with what we think is rural priority, those kinds of submissions get launched to a large reviewing audience to help them get reviewed. In-person seems like it would do the opposite to me.
If you were using the games to put those submissions in front of people who have never been introduced to Wayfarer… that introduces a whole new set of challenges. You may have enough people to see the spot in person (maybe) but without proper training, we all know that some games players are just going to accept anything they see to get more interaction points in their game.
They appealed here.
Street signs in Portugal, that’s was why they were removed.
@Glawhantojar It’s still impractical from a cost perspective, as it would cost Niantic labor costs to figure out how to implement.
Also, not everyone likes getting notifications on their devices, including myself. Yes, they can be turned off, but we’ve had people here in the forums getting upset that they keep getting notifications and don’t understand us when we try to explain how to turn them off. There was someone recently new to the forums who got very upset about this, as they kept getting woken up at all hours of the night, even though we advised on how to turn notifications off.
It would cause more traffic to the forums from people like this getting a review nomination for their local area at midnight, while in class, or while at work, for example.
I also prefer reviewing from my laptop, as I find reviewing from my phone or tablet to be somewhat cumbersome. It’s easier for me to switch back and forth from browser tabs to do more digging on Google Maps or a web search.
Niantic, like any other business, is going to look at what works best for all practical, basically pros vs cons. Right now, I see more cons then pros. There’s already a lot of cons to reviewing that the community has brought to Niantic’s attention, so it’d be better to work on those than trying to implement a completely new way of reviewing.
I think this is pretty obvious. Niantic has been using its own players to feed its database with lousy rewards for a long time, and other players have seen it coming. The solution is simple: don’t participate. Or just have fun with the game and forget about it.
Hello and welcome @CereusRPG
It is totally voluntary to participate in wayfarer.
It is a valid view that people should not do any of this. However consider the ramifications.
The reward that most of us get in relation to Niantic games, is something that is not tangible. We get to input places that appear in the games. We get a rush of endorphins when we spin that stop for the first time, hack the portal, or do a raid at a gym. We made that happen.
This improves game play not just for us as individuals but for all:heart_eyes:. In some areas without wayfinders exploring, finding, submitting and reviewing there wouldn’t be anything there to play with.
Don’t forget bragging rights.
Not something I would do.
In general, it would be better if Niantic would give out something meaningful when people submit new wayspots.
We don’t gain anything when there is a new gym or Pokestop in town, and other people are using it. Niantic hides our username (pogo, not even ingress) somewhere in the backsides of a photo, most people don’t even know where to look.
Cant I get proper credit for my work? Should i think that giving Niantic the chess figures so that people can play and generate income for them would lead to 0 reward for me?
There never has been a discussion that lead to a proper answer. Niantic never asks us for any ideas, they just take, take, take.
Totally feel you… I haven’t done Wayfarer in so long, but would like to get my Recon badge to Onyx eventually since I’ve been sitting at 119 over the 5K needed for platinum for some time now. I would be more likely to do it if they gave a 2 or 3 point value toward the medal per review instead of 1. It’s such a tedious & long process.
One reward we haven’t listed, is that if your rating is Great, your vote is weighted more. So you have more influence on keeping trash off our maps, and getting good things in game.
Not a big reward, but IMO goes on the list with upgrades, badges adding to the map, the fun of exploring the world in other people’s nominations, and the satisfaction of using your talents to create.
pretty sure you review wayspots to stack the upgrade function, also so you can speed up the process of getting more nodes in your area.
Feel free to review more or not, no ones making you do it lol.
Would be cool if they payed us but then the botters would make a job out of it and would flood the review queue, authentic players would have a much longer wait time. Niantic would ban the botters sure, but then they would have to individually audit those accounts. It’s bad enough already with the botters in the game, don’t give them a reason to submit wayspots lol.
Except I never said that in-person reviewing would replace normal reviewing…
I’m not suggesting that this run through PoGO, Ingress, or any of their games but through the Scanniverse app.
They could have the feature disabled by default when they launched it, so people would have to opt in. The only people getting notifications are the people who asked for them.
Isn’t that what the forums are for? For people to come and ask questions?
There are people who review a lot from their phones. I’ll say this again, you don’t have to like it or want to do it. All features are not for everyone. I’d be willing to be there are enough people who would be willing to participate.
I’m not naive, I know it’s unlikely to happen. But I like to dream.
I would love to be able to opt in to notifications that asked me to verify something nearby. it’s always fun when you get something in review and realize it’s somewhere you were recently, this would be very similar but with the ability to help out.
Thats is by far the most important part of the whole process. and comes in a close 2nd after improving the games as a whole
Important to remember it is another part of game(s) being played.
Yes we do volunteer to perform a free service. Each will have their own reason(s) for being a participant.
Everyone can play the game(s) in their own way.
It is voluntary and it is ok to stop or pause if you are not getting satisfaction.
Do what you enjoy and what is satisfying . Have fun !!
Totally get you but my question was closed, yes or no. I guess in your case it was no. And your reasons are good. I just wish people were more out there and just say what they think instead of convincing you of something obvious.
