Edits in Contribution Management Page - Discussion

Hi @NianticTintino can you please add the option to withdraw an edit request? (in queue or even if it is already in voting). thanks a lot.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
We understand that the ability to withdraw edits would be a necessary addition to complete the edits integration into the contributions page.
We will work with the team to prioritize this.

Thank you. Please do so as soon as possible.
I checked the contribution page and found several items that I would like to take down in the position edit, including those under review.
They were either entered in an attempt to move them in two steps at a time when I did not know how to edit them correctly, or they were submitted in error. All of them were later requested by myself in the forum or bubble chat to correct the position and have already been corrected.

And when you add it, keep the option there if it’s in voting. The system is so screwed up that stuff stays in voting for years!!

Why on earth do I have edits from 2021 in my queue. Not only that some of the waypoints no longer exist. Why do they not get automatically removed from queue when the waypoint is deleted. No one can move a waypoint that no longer exists :man_shrugging:t2:

Both these waypoints no longer exist. Please remove them from my queue.

Some of my edits from years ago appeared to have been accepted and show the dark green pin however still show as in voting :man_shrugging:t2:

The ambassadors have given feedback about edits, but do post your feedback too.

Normally, there is a key to manage any database.
All information is linked to that key, and if it is deleted or hidden, the data is usually deleted or hidden in conjunction with it.
If it is a Wayfarer database, it is supposed to maybe a GUID, but for some reason it does not seem to be linked.
Therefore, after a wayspot is deleted, a “very strange bottle message” is delivered from the Wayfarer database sea some time later, saying “Unfortunately, your edit has been rejected”. LOL!

The Wayfarer team should get to work on this problem ASAP.
Otherwise, no matter how many backlogs they resolve, they will soon revert.
By the way, I see I have one still under review in December 2020.
Also, the oldest edit report that is not under review is exactly one year old.
I’ve given up on it, so the sooner you delete it and report a new edit, the sooner it will be done.
I’m sure Emily will disavow it and choose a blank description, though, since she doesn’t understand Japanese well.

No wayspots get actually deleted. They are simply marked in the database as removed, and then removed from games, but they still exist in the database. Some of those wayspots may be reinstated in the future. I’m not sure if completing edits for those wayspots make much sense, but I certainly don’t mind.

Wow, my oldest unresolved edit is from February 2021.

My funniest “why is this still unresolved” one is a title edit from over a year ago where I wanted to correct a typo. A year in voting aparrently to correct the spelling of “heritage”.

It’s also quite amazing how many times I had to sumbit some edits that seemed pretty obvious to me ie new photo where the old one is dark/blurry/generally bad, or title/description edits to add more detail and correct spelling.

Great idea! We need withdraw edit to make retry edit wayspot more. Looks like button withdraw in edit contribution is missing.

But these waypoints are 100% gone and will never be reinstated. One of them was an artwork that was in the harbour so actually in the water. It was removed way before I actually reported it for removal. It’s not been there for about 7 years. The other will also never be returning.

Yes definitely needed. Some of my edits are now irrelevant because they have been accepted via other players edits. Why would mine need accepting when the details on the waypoint are already correct.

It sounds like we will be getting the option to withdraw these edits, so I guess we can tidy the queue up then. So many of them took so long to resolve that they dont need to happen anymore, and it will be great to reset things. I’m so pleased we can finally see what we submitted!

Hi @NianticAaron
I see that you’re on right now
Could you please give me a short answer if it is possible to ask for photo removes via help chat?
That’s also an edit part of your chat robot

Yes, if the image in question is invalid.

It’s a shame I can’t put edits on hold as a few times I’ve had to submit separate title, description, photo edits while not knowing which will be reviewed first.

It usually leads to rejections as the old photo doesn’t match with my title edit which leads to my description being rejected as it doesn’t match etc etc.

Yep, every single edit, photo, and nomination is there from 2013. I know a userscript could probably already do this but it would be nice to have the ability to use the Google Maps satellite layer. I’m imagining it’s a bigger API cost but looking at location edits is like a Twilight Zone.

That’s been added via plugin if you’re into that sort of thing. Unsure if its cost or some other reason that prevents the team from including it natively but i was not told that it was unacceptable to add it via plugin so it must be alright.

if you look at the data the page receives, all edits have a poiData object which contains an id. that id is the same for all edits to the same wayspot, and if you happen to edit a nomination you made, you’ll notice it’s also the id for that nomination.

so they are all linked, but it’s unclear why some of the cleanup you mention doesn’t happen.
